Does anyone here know where to get a decent used transmission for a honda civic? Any help would be great. I was getting ready to sell My wifes honda, and this week the transmission goes out  . I am trying to decide wether to sell as is or fix and sell. Blue Book is about $4300 in fair condition for a 1997 with 129,000 miles so I thought I might get $4,000 because it has some other cosmetic issues. I am probably looking at about $2,000 for a rebuild. I think I might be able to get $1,000 - $1,500 as is. It has a new water pump, timing belt, radiator, tires, front cv axles. GIVE ME YOUR THOUGHTS!

sell as-is.

Don't know about San Diego, but up here in the Bay Area, there are several places that supply used Japanese engines and transmissions. You may check the phone book or hit up a few of the bigger repair shops in your area that work on Japanese cars for specifics. The engines and transmissions friends have purchased from these places have been in good shape and often come with a guarantee. Depending on the cost, plus cost to install, you may sell the car for a few more $$ if you replace vs sell as is.

Good Luck!

I put the car on craigslist as-is last night and sold it at lunch. Thanks for the input.
