Over the weekend picked up a 2015 200 series with 7k miles. Came with the Dunlop Grand Trek P285/60/18s. The Dunlop's are a highway tread with a ms rating, not much depth to the tread and don't have a very good grip on the snow. Being passenger class tire they also feel too soft and are probably responsible for some of the roll feel I get from the vehicle.

There are other tire options with the most choice being in E rated tires. ( Cooper AT/3, Nitto Terra Grappler / G2, Duratrac etc.. Wondering if going to an E will make the ride too harsh for the family. Would I be better off to look for an 8 or 6 ply or will the E rated tire keep enough of the smooth ride without airing down to keep the family happy?

Thx

I put E rated Coopers on my LX470 before heading to Overland West this year. Love the tires, and while they rode very smooth on the trip, you can really feel their weight around town. I believe they make them in a C series, which I would suggest if it's going to be a daily driver.

Terra Grappler G2's on my LC. Badass off-road and barely noticeable on-road.

Tripledave - Are your G2's E rated, hwy ride still ok? Any drop in mpg. I'm not finding any 6 or 8 ply tires in the tread I'm looking for.

How are they in snow and ice too? For here in Idaho, I like to have something that is good in the cold weather as well.

Well.... Ice and snow is relative to where you live but in the frozen trash we get here in north Texas (ice, melty snow turning to ice, etc) they rocked it last winter. I drove speed limit or above everywhere I went when we had ice/snow just because I could. Confidence=10 but prob most of it had to do with LC itself. It's pretty cool to know you CANNOT get stuck with a minimal application of practical driving skill in your LC.

I also run 44-45 psi. Smooth I tell ya, buttery even.
