I purchased a used 2F engine with 110K on it. I have the old engine out. What should I do to the used engine while it is out?

Rear main seal?
Clutch?

What would be good insurance without spending too much money?

I plan on running the used engine a year or 2 (not too many miles) while I rebuild the old one.

If you're not too worried about the used engine, then just check it to make sure that it can run for however long you need it. Major oil leaks, clutch etc.

A 2f with 110k has another good 100 k left in it if you take care of it. Why you want to only use it for a couple years?

Its easy to surface and reseat the manifold when the engine is out of the truck. You might as well make sure the front seal and timing gear covers aren't leaking too.

My first inclination was to just install the thing. It seemed like 110K was pretty low miles for a 2F. After pulling the old engine, I wondered if I sould save myself some pain later.

There is a few drops of oil from the front of the new engine. I might change that seal. But I think that is about it.

Thanks for the help.

Do the front main and timing cover seal while it is out of the truck, it will be waaaaay easier that way. If there is no tranny on it, may as well do the rear too. Again, way easier now than later with it installed.

If you aren't going to put a lot of miles on it, why even bother to replace any seals? Lots of 200,000+ mile engines with the original seals...

However, I would go through everything and make sure it's tight. Manifold nuts, oil pan bolts, side cover bolts, etc.
