Need a bit of help/info. I tried attaching my old 5th gen video ipod (these have some of the best D/A converters). Unfortunately, the stereo isn't recognizing the playlists and it won't allow me to navigate using the click wheel which is so much faster. I could deal w/ browsing through the stereo, but the playlist matter is a deal breaker. So i'm interested in getting a microSD card and loading all my music and playlists on that and then plugging it in using a usb stick w/ microSD slot.

Can anyone tell me if there's a microSD size limitation imposed by the stereo?

Will it recognize .MU3 playlist files?

Thanks in advance!

Early on when I first got my GX I did the same thing. I purchased a bunch of these really small low profile flash USB drives:
I wanted the low profile so I can keep the ashtray cover closed when the USB was inserted.
On each USB I put a genre of music, e.g.: 1st USB: classical; 2nd Blues; 3rd: Celtic; 4th Country Swing; 5th: Coffee House, etc.
Then whatever I'm in the mood for I just shove in that USB.
If I remember right, one thing I found is you need to keep everything just one folder down from the root drive. You can't have song files 4 or 5 folders deep.
As a tip, don't try to put your ENTIRE music collection on one USB drive, it may not work. I have the 32gb drives and they held a heck of a lot of music.
But now I'm always on Spotify for my music so I don't use them, but they're still in my ashtray, just in case.

dang it! "foiled again" lol. i'm 65gb+ of music. yeah, my folder structure is root folder/artist folder/album folder and then the individual tracks. if i change it, i need to rebuild all my playlists and that ain't happening. guess i'll just listen to the horrendous window droning lol. looks like i'm stuck w/ bluetooth. i miss the days when head units had RCA line in's.

sad to say, but I think this will be last association w/ toyota. hope it lasts. can't wait to get my double locked 5spd manual '98 4Runner back on the road (hit an elk end of june). That truck ROCKS. simple, no beeping at me, no droaning/whistling, no major issues to look forward to, and i bought it new. hope the gx comfort doesn't ruin me. can't deny that!

appreciate the response.

So is mine. My '17 can index it but it takes about 15 minutes each time I switch to USB source.

I need to delete a bunch of stuff off the USB. Having multiple small USBs is a good idea.

The one I'm using is one my wife made by copying the files out of the directory itunes uses. That put a bunch of garbage files in the file system that confuse the head unit. I got rid of them by mounting the USB stick on a linux box and writing scripts to find and delete them.
