Hi all,
I’m curious what folks use their USB/AUX port for now that everything has gone the way of Bluetooth. The USB port is very weak in my LC ‘17 and doesn’t charge my phone in a reasonable time. The AUX port initially was good to plug in an iPod but technology has passed them by. Just seems to be ports without a purpose. Anything I’m missing?

My newest iPhone doesn’t charge in the aux port very well at all either.

All of my music library on a low-profile USB stick lives in the USB port…

I had the same problem with the port not charging my iPhone, but once I changed the cable to one from Apple, the problem corrected itself.

This...

It's my backup music source when I'm in weak cell areas.

I’ve been using Apple charge cords.

Those ports are usually only 1.5A.
Good cords do maximize that but newer ports are 3A etc…so it will never be enough for the new power hungry phones.

Yes that port is obsolete unless you use as the guys above do with backup music.

Best option is a usb C cigarette lighter adapter to get the fastest charge.

I am OK with the slow charging via USB…better for battery anyways. I ALWAYS connect USB when I get in the car to my iPhone 13 Pro Max...because i listen to music via USB. I shut off the wireless charger. I have AC vent mount…so, AC always cools the phone while navigating.

Buy a quality usbC cigarette lighter adapter and be done with it. With the two ports I run one and have another spot for radar detector power on trips.

Or if on iOS and you don’t want cables wire it up behind the dash and stick a MagSafe puck to a convenient spot with 3m VHB if you want to be extra slick.

For years I’d limit charging to 1A to maximize battery health but between replacing the phone every year and the charge technology improving there is no real benefit to this strategy anymore. So I’ll be doing the above eventually.. if I can find a spot big enough anyway. I rarely use my phone for navigation so blocking the temp controls with a proclip doesn’t appeal to me.

Not all USB is made equal. USB describes the physical interface of which there are many flavors and is the most easily recognizable. But there's a protocol layer that runs under the physical interface which has been constantly evolving. This negotiates amps but also volts, or total power in watts to the device.

Newest phones can draw 20-30W using USB-PD. Which may need an upgraded power adapter and compatible cord. Cigarette power adapters go all the way to 120W+ and possible more to support tablets and laptops.

I always use my phone for nav as the LC nav is antiquated, IMHO. What do you use?

Before leaving I typically use the phone to suggest a route because of it's ability to take traffic into account.. but beyond that I generally just know where I'm going. Or at least well enough that the moving map on the factory nav will easily get me to where I need to go. I've punched in an address on this nav once, maybe twice.. but turn by turn navigation isn't something I like to rely on regularly whether it's the truck or my phone.

Edit to add: driving is actually in my job title so awareness of roads and routes kindof comes with the territory.

My 2020 LC had a problem with the heated seat controls and I had Toyota fix the “sensor” but now my USB aux port no longer works. I’ve been looking for a fuse but cannot find it. Does anyone know where that might be? Next will be removing the center console to try and figure out if the Toyo tech failed to reconnect it when he got into the area for the heated seat control. Any ideas? (I’ve tried every cord I have and nothing is coming out of that USB port.
