Here's what my jack compartment looks like and the plugs on the back of the box behind the driver taillight.

Doesn't look like mine but that could be the "upgraded" box.

Does it have a label ? mine was clearly marked.

Where do the wires go ?

The label is covered by the bracket. I'll take it off when I have a chance. I need to just search the part number but cant read it off the pic

Sorry for being a pain with all this :(

Is the the upgraded box? I need real time help on this. Pulled my DS tail light to install a hopkins hoppy and this is what is behind the tail light. I was told there would be a small six wire gray plug. I would just tap in to the six wire plug for all the functions. As everyone can see this is not a six wire plug. Does anyone have pictures of the plug and where they found it?

Bump for help

packetstormin, check post #10, and find the connector adjacent to the resonator. The converter, if you have one, is connected right there and goes into that rear tail light area. It might be fastened to the sheet metal with double sided tape... or at least that is what the instructions said to do. I'm not sure what a hoppy is but if you are wiring in a new converter, you would start at the connector next to the resonator.

Yes I'm I stalling a new protected circuit converter. The brand is called Hopkins and the model is the hoppy. I am wondering if my truck has the upgraded factory converter? The black converter labeled Toyota is no where to be found in the jack compartment or behind the ds taillight. The box in my picture is what I found behind the ds taillight. I found the connector you are talking about by the resonator. The wires that run from the connector go to the 4 pin by the hitch

If anyone can help me with this please pm me or post here. I am trying to get this buttoned up by tomorrow.

It sounds like you don't have the OE converter. You need to disconnect the existing 4-pin connector we talked about earlier and wire your hoppy converter there. Or you can buy one of many pre-wired converters... basically plug and play.

Well I do have the 4pin connector. Perhaps it is aftermarket ?

If this is the case then what is the easiest way to tap in to the turn and brake light signals? I have the fsm wiring schematic for the trailer controller but that won't do me much good if the 4 pin is aftermarket.

Wasn't there a recall on this? Or a TSB or what ever it is called? Won't Mr Toyota fix it for you if it has never been done? Just curious as I have the same issue.

The issue re-occurs even with the new updated Toyota controller. I will post pictures later of the wires that you need to tap in to on the upgraded converter and harness.

This above picture is the upgraded harness

This above picture is where the upgraded harness plugs in to the main rear wiring harness

This above picture is the upgraded factory Toyota converter.

So basically follow the other directions to get to the converter. It was behind my ds taillight. It is in a bracket clipped to a pinch weld seem below the ds taillight.

What I did was unplug the upgraded harness from the blue plug in the picture. This gave room to work. I then used the provided taps that came in my Hopkins hoppy isolated trailer wiring circuit.

This is the wiring scheme is as follows

White green is brake light
Yellow green is right turn signal
Black green is left turn signal
Green green next to yellow is tail lights

This wiring scheme is only for the upgraded harness plug pictured. An important point to make in regards to this wiring scheme is that there is a green green wire next to a solid yellow wire. This green green wire should not be mixed up.

Anyways I hope this helps. Feel free to pm me if you need any help.

I will be posting up how to wire in a prodigy brake controller next.
