Play in the joint. There shouldn't be any up or down sloppiness. I have an extra boot kit if that's all you need.Bumping this. While under the truck removing my running board I noticed the boot is torn on mine. How do you determine off the ball joint is a candidate for rebooting vs replacement?

Thanks very much. Seems pretty simple, should I be prepared for a struggle in separating the ball joint from the hub ? Any specific way to do it / tools needed ?1. Remove cotter pin from upper ball joint.
2. Remove nut from upper ball joint.
3. Separate upper ball joint from hub.
4. Remove old boot/clip.
5. Install new boot/clip with a couple squirts of grease.
6. Repeat steps 3, 2, 1 in reverse order.
