I have an odd question that’s probably been covered I just can’t find in the search function.

Backstory:

My 1987 fj60 has a leaky power steering pump and steering box. I just upgraded to a bigger wheel and tire and will be lifting with a dobinson ims 2.2” lift at the end of the month. I think it’s time to upgrade the steering box as well seeing as I’m leaking power steering fluid in multiple places. This seemed to be a problem from the previous owner as well since the entire driver side was caked in 1” of built of power fluid grime. I digress

I want to go with an 80 series box with 105 sector shaft. I’ve been in contact with cruiser outfitters without much luck getting the explanation I want. (It’s probably my fault).

In anticipation of upgrading I bought a Pittman arm for the 105 sector shaft reamed out for a 60 drag link end. (Picture below)

My issue is there’s no drop on the new pitman arm where as my old stock arm has what looks like a 3” drop.

I’m thinking the drag link will still clear but will it mess the geometry of the steering up?

Will it be effected even more after the lift?

Whose upgraded before and if you have did you have to change to a longer drag link rod or what pitman arm did you use?

Thanks for the help ahead of time everyone. I just want to get it right before dropping this much money. Also want to have all the right parts ready to minimize downtime.

I have this setup on my 62 with 80 pitman arm. I recall the only trick with the 80 pitman arm was reaming, which you said you’ve done, and not being able to use the alignment marks on arm and shaft. I recall orienting the arm similarly to how the 62 arm pointed, which put the marks out of alignment.

Do you have any pictures of this setup?

80 pitman arm will work fine on a 60. Yes, you will just a few more degrees of relay rod angle, and yes more with a lift. with proper alignment and caster it isn't a serious deal.

If you want it to be *perfect* with a basic 2.5-3" lift, 4x4labs and FROR make "mid-steer" steering arms, but very very few end up going to those lengths.

Appreciate it Matt.
