My '98 has been sitting outside in 100+ degree weather for several days. Went to use remote key button to open DS door, didn't work (normally works fine).
I unlocked and opened DS door (manually) and hit unlock switch on DS door - dead. No action on any of the door lock actuators. Tried passengers side lock/unlock switch too - dead.
I closed all doors, inserted key in DS door, and tried the auto lock/unlock function (turn key either direction) it's not working either.

Everything else electrical works fine. It isn't breaker. Do you think the DS door lock panel switch / window switch cluster has come to an end?

Thoughts welcomed.

Yup, common. Electric motors in the door lock actuators need replacing.
Tons of threads on what/where to buy and how to do it. Or you can drop like $750 for all the OEM actuators.
The remote isn't unresponsive, it's sending the request, the motors are just too weak to comply.

Never happens in the winter, just when it's hot.

Thanks for responding. Just recently replaced all door actuators - they are like new. All window switches work from the DS door panel of switches- just the master door lock / unlock switch is inop.

Sorry, didn't realize that. Weird. Could be a crimped wire as it travels from the door to behind the dash. That's what happens with speakers pretty frequently.

Have you by chance installed an aftermarket tailgate storage? I get this same issue with the keys not locking/unlocking remotely, the auto lock/unlock not working with key in door, and the door switches not working when I have accidentally knocked the wire cap off the tailgate lock when I have been in/out of the tailgate storage.

Nope on the tailgate storage. Only thing I can think of is perhaps all door lock actuators route through the main driver's side door cluster of switches that controls all the door windows and locks. It can't be the fuse because the windows would not work along with door locks if it were. Guess I need to cost new DS door / window switch panel. Been awhile since I purchased parts - I use to use Cruiser Dan but he retired. Any recommendations?

So there's used and new options, obviously.
Cruiseryard might have a used/known good one available

For new, I first go to partsouq.com, enter my VIN to guarantee the parts apply to specifically my truck then find the part number.
Partsouq is good for this because they have the comprehensive exploded views of everything linked to the part# listing.
Then I take that part# to cruisin4parts.com and that lists a number of vendors usually including impex and amaya along with a
number of local (North American) dealers. It also lists the price they're currently charging and the quantity available.

I keep my specific vehicle specs report from Toyota on the desktop of my screen so I can open it and just highlight/copy the VIN
to then paste into the VIN field on partsouq.com

UPDATE: 75 degrees this morning - so I figured I'd go outside and see if any change with door locks, remote . Everything working perfectly now that it has cooled off. Scratching my head on this one - for sure.

Yeah, that's weird...acting just like weak actuator motors

I have the same on super hot days. Even my brand new actuator for the drivers door stops working after a couple tries.

What is giving the power locks their power? Is it that junction box above the radio? I have searched and searched to fix my lock issues over the last 7 years and that seems to be the last thing i haven't tried.

8279160041 is the part number for the 2001.
