Does anyone have a part number for this little rubber piece that sits inside the antenna ornament / ring?

Mine is ripped, and when I asked at both the local Lexus and Toyota dealers, they could not identify it.

I'm fairly certain that is a piece that comes with the antenna mast assembly. I just replaced our antenna about a month ago (broken tooth-ribbon) and pretty sure that little piece was stuck on the mast and kinda acted as a stop/retainer for the telescoping tube, and then the metal screw cap (pictured) clamped over this - makes it so antenna can't get yanked out.

Don't get the budget Amazon replacement, it didn't fit for me even though it was supposed to fit - mast was oversize for the motor's down tube and wouldnt go in. Got another off eBay and it fit perfect for about $30 - almost 1/2 price of OEM.

I would hope there is a way to get this part without ordering a whole new mast? I replaced the mast a couple months ago with a nice / cheap option from Antennas Masts R Us. I will ping them again to see if they can sell me a replacement.

For now, the antenna nut is getting sucked down into this plastic washer every time it retracts. It still operates fine, but looks really strange.

Post up in the wanted section or surf the classifieds to see if anybody has a complete antenna assembly for sale. Quite a few have done the Airtec snorkel which eliminates the factory antenna.

Thanks for the suggestion. I sent an email to the vendor where I bought the mast, to see if they sell the rubber grommet separately. I don't want to purchase a whole separate mast or assembly, when I just need the tiny plastic part.

Ah, so it IS part of the mast assembly. Interesting...

I think I am going to wait a bit until it either (1) becomes a bigger problem, or (2) my OCD kicks in and I get sick of staring at the nut sucked into the rubber piece.

I think this may be a side effect of the "discount" mast that I bought from Antenna Masts R Us. The nut on the top seems a bit smaller than the stock one, which is likely by it is sucking down into the rubber.

Thanks for all the input folks!

what do you mean by this? got a pic? what "nut" are you referring to? the only one I know of is the one you pictured and that's an OEM part that threads onto the pickup tube for the motor - and shouldn't move at all once screwed on.

i'm assuming you mean the mast gets sucked down too far when it retracts? if it were me, i'd try to epoxy that black piece on the mast and see if that holds it in place. i've still got my OEM mast laying around, but i doubt the grommet thing will fit your aftermarket one - and no idea how to get said piece off w/o breaking it off...

You're right, I mixed up the names in looking at the part diagram. :o

The metal ring is officially the "nut" (86396-89102). I was referring to the metal "ball" built in to the end of the mast.

When my antenna retracts, the "ball" doesn't stop / rest on the rubber part in the photo (and thus sit on top of the nut), and instead sucks down into the rubber ring, looking like it is inside the nut. It still goes up & down fine.

Sorry for the confusion!

Yeah, what's happening is the little piece is supposed to retain the depth of the antenna tube and since it's disconnected it lets it suck down too far. You simply need to reattach the plastic piece somehow. I would probably even try a simple piece of tape underneath that wedges the plastic ring in place or epoxy or super glue it to hold until you need to replace again in the future.

Not sure with the available pictures, and what the profile of the rubber grommet is, but can a black o-ring work? You can get almost any size form McMaster Carr or a good hardware store. If you were to try it, and it didn't work, you'd be out all of about a buck. (That's assuming it doesn't cause stress on anyother parts and damage something more expensive.);p

After finally finding some time to play with this, it looks like my problem was solved by two things:

(1) I made sure the rubber part was tightly seated against the antenna similar to what was shown in the OEM mast pic posted earlier.

(2) I tightened the nut extremely tight, when I reassembled, since the nut appears to squeeze the rubber piece in and provide a tighter hold, preventing the ball from being sucked in.

Thanks everyone for the suggestions!
