Hi All, I can't find it in any of the manuals, but does anyone know what the canisters are for. They sit between the alternators vacuum pump and brake and clutch boosters.
The vacuum lines go from the alternator vacuum pump, into these two canisters (one for each booster) and then from the canister to the booster.
The one connecting to the brake booster has what looks like a pressure switch sensor?....

Excellent, now I know what to search for, cheers.

Do these contain the non-return valve, or is that within the pump? Also, could I just delete them all together?
Just tidying up the engine bay for the new motor ;)

Keep them, otherwise you’ll have no power braking when the engine is not running. The factory reservoirs are usually good for a few good pumps of the brakes once the engine is off. Not exactly sure where the check valve is in the system.

There should be a one way valve on the reservoir and on the vacuum pump. There's also a switch on the reservoir which illuminates the brake warning light if the vacuum runs out when the ignition is on.

Cheers all. Some good info and a bit more here.....

Just a few follow-up queries....

1) Using a vacuum gauge, what vacuum reading would you expect to see on a good working system?
2) The pump has two vacuum lines/circuits (brake and clutch). Could I combine both into just one larger tank and run the brake and clutch off that?

I don't see an issue with having a single reservoir, so long as there are separate feeds to each component.

What's the issue with the factory reservoir?

I need to do some more investigations, but it seems like the clutch vacuum or booster is not working well enough. The tanks are a little worse for ear on the other side.

Another vacuum query, what are these smaller vacuum lines for?

Those look like the solenoids for a vacuum shift transfer case (H-N-L type)
