I bought 4 brand new Michelin tires about 3 years ago. I've put about 20k on them. There are 2 tires that are worn and 2 tires that look brand new. I started rotating the tires during oil changes so I can't tell if it's the front or rear that's the culprit.

Has anyone else experienced this? Was it your front or rear that was wearing tires quicker?

I'm thinking it's the front. Three years ago I did all 4 brake pads and now my fronts are worn down and need to be replaced. Perhaps this correlates to extra wear on the tires as well?

?? Doesn't make sense. If you were rotating tires at every oil changes, then after 20k miles, the tires should have mostly worn the same - even if that wear is poor due to bad alignment, worn suspension parts, etc. Need more info here.

Do you rotate the tires yourself, or have it done somewhere? If you don't do it yourself, I wonder if it's actually being done?

Sorry, I should clarify. I was not rotating the tires for a while until the shop noticed wear, then I started rotating the past 2 oil changes. I just don't remember if the tires where up front or not when the issue was noticed.

The bigger question is, does anyone notice increased wear on their tires front or rear? I want to try and even them out but don't know if I should put them up front or not.

I recently purchased an 02 LC. The previous owner was very fanatical about service he even had the rear passenger cup holder replaced by Toyota because it wasn't working correctly. I find it hard to believe that he wasn't having the Yokohama Geolander tires he had purchased rotated at the correct intervals. Yet I have two tires that are a lot more worn than the other two. The better two where on the back so I had them rotated to the front. I also had my alignment checked and it was perfect. So I was kinda wondering the same thing.

I had yoko geolanders on my lx, they tend to wear very quickly on the front. Great looking tire, but not really impressed with the snow performance. Like the other guys said, with regular rotations that should of really masked a problem. I would get a 4 wheel alignment done anyway. Good luck.

Not going to bad mouth them, for the price they're not bad. But I've got 12k on my Michelin latitude tour hp, and they still look new. Definitely not as aggressive of a look as the geos, but I'll definitely get a lot more miles out of them.

very likely the front. I see a lot of scrubbing when doing tight turns while parking the 100.

But I'll throw a long shot in: last time I bought some tires from Costco, even though they were all the same model, I got 3 from Japan and one from some developing country, and possibly of different quality. Maybe you got 2 good ones and 2 lesser ones?

I may take it in today and put the better tires up front, then get an alignment.

Ok, here is auto maintenance 101. Tires, brakes, shocks etc will wear faster in the front because that's the location of most of the weight.

Evidently the places I've been getting my oil changes done just rotate the tires and don't actually put the tires with the most traction up front. Lesson learned.
