Low Sulfur Diesel has been around in the US market for a few years and about 10 years in Canada and Europe. Less than 500ppm sulfur. It caused problems with some engines because it lacked sufficient lubricity for some IPs. Lots of diferent addditives could restore the lubricity to that of old #2 diesel.
Ultra Low Sulfur Diesel is only now coming to the US market, it's required to have lubricity additives so it's as slippery as the old #2 diesel at the pump.
Less than 15ppm sulfur, so it burns a lot cleaner.
