Anyone happen to have a 2000-2002 stock front differential "just" laying around?? FML, I was just doing some preventative maintenance on fluids and these lovely chunks came out attached to the magnetic drain plug on my front differential.
That looks exactly like what came out of my front diff except I had about 10 times that amount of metal. I looked around at all my options. There is a guy on here with a complete carrier with factory 4.10 ring still on it. If those pieces are from your ring gear or carrier then you should be set. I will pm you his info. If you need a complete front rebuild then contact justdifferentials.com. They had a couple complete 100 series 3rd members in stock and could build them to your spec. They also have the gears and rebuild kits all in stock. Their prices were good and they had everything I needed in one place. You could also try a used 3rd member from car-part.com I found a couple local to me on there. They were in the $400-500 range. PM coming.
I'm the guy with the complete carrier with factory 4.10 ring gear. Unfortunately it came out of an 06 and is listed as a different part #, no idea if they're interchangeable.
For what its worth somewhere on Mud there is an thread where the Toyota engineer who designed the 80 series diff is quoted as saying that the diff is designed to function normally with thumb nail sized metal pieces floating around in it. I know this isn't an 80 and I would still be very upset if I found that in my diff but maybe its not totally trashed.
