Ugh, this is why you don't let friends borrow your chain saw

So my buddy borrowed my saw, bad choice on my part.

So he destroyed a chain, at least he bought a new one... However when I pulled it apart to clean it up it appears he threw the chain at some point. Can I glue this shut? just leave it? or do I need to get a new cover if it's even available?

Oh yeah... it's a 260 pro.

Thanks,
Brittain

Never lend out a saw. I made this mistake. The guy spent two days cutting railroad ties. Ruined the saw. Next time a freind asked to borror my 046 and I told him no, he was really pissed, but I just don't have $800 to throw around.

I would not consider that a friend. I generally don't loan out my tools to most people since I don't like my tools to be returned in much worse condition than when it left.

Yea,..that sucks, when I was young and starting out, I would borrow a few tools, and before I returned them, would take apart and clean them, and return usually better than when I received them..I borrowed a jig saw once, and promptly broke it, then I had to buy one to replace it, plus one for me...

For that price, I would just buy a new piece.

I have a poulan that I let people borrow if they come ask me for a saw. I can see their eye's on the Stihl's, but I just say they will hurt themselves.

He didn't know about the broken piece. He's already ordered a replacement through the local dealer for me.

Thanks Dan for the part number.

Ah. I like the idea of a polan or craftsman to keep only as a loaner. Might have to hit craigslist or yard sales. I've got a commercial Solo saw, which is a nice German unit. I "loaned" (he took without asking) to my father-in-law. It came back after being submerged in a foot of water in the bed of his pick-up. Maybe I should get that going as a loaner saw.

Nice, Id be pissed.

I have a 14" craftsman electric that is a great little workhorse. That is the one that gets loaned out. Usually will need a new chain when it comes back. " Yeah I sawed through the dirt, the log was on the ground." I loan out chains I resharpened on my HF electric sharpener.
I even had to replace the trigger once.
I eagerly loan out stuff to friends I trust and for those i don't, I will loan them my tools if they loan me their woman for equal time.

If they go for option #2, do you send their woman back in good shape?

Bitch slap said friend then charge him for the replacement piece AND a case of beer for your troubles.....

My boss is the saw killer; calls me when the new bar and chain is not cutting (chain is on backwards)...

His grandkid, (who works for us).. I thought I had well trained, runs some old fuel mix from Grampa's recommends. Old boat gas left over from the cabin...Another Husky bites the dust.

I loaned out my old Stihl to a buddy a few years back. Offered him the one gallon can of premix along with it and he said no, he already had some. He returned the saw a few days later and I stuck it in the shed and forgot about it. When I went to use it the damned thing was frozen. He never said what happened to it only that it quit running after he put the fuel in it. I asked him it he put the 2 cycle oil in it and he said "whats that". I knew then he ran straight fuel and froze the piston. I pulled the plug, put in a little marvel mystery oil in the cylinder and let it set for a couple of days. Put her back together and it fired right up. Still have it and it gives me no trouble.....

I don't loan out any tools anymore.....
