Yes, we have people out of work and Yes, the CCC created a bunch of nice park facilities for us to enjoy but No, we do not need yet another government funded and run program to cure our ills. More government programs, more government intrusion, and more government involvement in our daily lives is not the answer. And to add, where would the government get the money to support such a large program?

You are right. Cold turkey shut off the welfare and watch people starve or riot sounds a lot better.

Ok this for purely the lazy bastards that don't want to work....give them 6 months on welfare to find a job and then cut them off...you will see two main things happen 1 the unemployment rate will drop and 2 the govt deficit would be cut in half....6 months is your average emergency fund, so give them that and then be done with there asses...they'll either find a job or they'll starve

So what would you have done with all the people who have been put out of a job because of the recession. You know the ones that cannot find a job to work? When they get cut off in 6 months what do you think will happen? You think they will just die? Those people who give welfare a bad name probably make up for 5% of the true picture. Get over the 5% and start thinking about the poor and elderly people who rely on it to survive.

Exactly. I think far too many people think it will never happen to them or that they don't know anyone that uses welfare/unemployment/medicaid/medicare. You would be shocked just how many people do. Probably people on here. Probably someone in your neighborhood...probably someone in your close family. Not many people advertise it.

Making policy on the 5% that abuse it and make the news that impacts the 95% is silly and short sighted. Asking people to do what they can in exchange for support in a hard time is fair in my opinion. You can't find work? Here is some work for fair pay until you find better. You can't work? Can you help with something else, we can find you some and maybe start teaching you a trade.

I am just saying a fair wage for fair work, even from government, is better than people starving or becoming so disenfranchised that they take advantage or revolt. It is a kind, civil, and appropriate way to start changing the culture.

My wife and i have 4 children. Aaron the baby is the one born with congenital heart failure. So after three days of birth he turns purple and pretty much dies, twice actually. So three years and two open heart surgeries later dr. bills are about 1.5 million dollars and counting. Now lets be frank, i make 60k a year and could not even approach that debt. So we apply for and receive tefra which basically is medicade.
What i do not understand is why they put all my kids on it for the 1st year. all i need help with was Aaron, the other three are fine and dandy. The system we have works fine and dandy if they would just actually enforce the rules we have and do simple drug tests. As for people who can not get a job, if u are an accountant and can not find work it is time to change your line of work. You would be surprised what supervisors make at mcdonalds!!

Somehow I don't think you understand what a recession or depression mean. I'd much rather have spent the money then be in even worse condition. Do you understand why the government spent the money they did these past 5 years? Do you think the gov likes spending your money? You think they want more of it? You cannot compare a gov with a population and GDP 1/1000th less to what we have now. Stop reading the paper and watching the news. Do you really think that is what really goes on. Start focusing on the positive aspects on things and stop focusing on the things that are bad. We do more things right in our gov than we do wrong. It's not all bad.

Ok you did not read my entire post...you skipped the first line...I said the lazy bastards....that does not include the ones that need it....welfare should be just like unemployment, if you are not actively filling out applications for jobs then yes you should be cut off....I have seen and talked to many folks that have a college degree and are in there 40's and 50's that lost there job and are working a job like fast food or retail so they are able make ends meet...they understand that the economy will recover but they have to do something in the mean time to take care of the family....there are plenty of jobs out there and some are being to selective on where they want to work....take what you get so you can support your family until you are able to find what you want for the long run

I had a friend in the same boat...he is a professor at Clemson and makes good money but his wife's water broke at 22 weeks and they were able to keep her from delivering until the baby was old enough to be delivered, so a long ass time in the nicu, and there daughter was born with complications and they were able to get her on Medicaid cause of the cost of nicu and all the other stuff...so I am in total agreement when folks need help give it to them....these are the examples of when an how the govt is supposed to help...and she is healthy now and over time she will be able to come off of Medicaid.

That does not happen. The majority of career politicians have made fortunes off of promising one thing to get elected and then doing opposiite once they get into office.

The only way to fix the issue is to dump every politician out on the streets and ban them from even speaking about politics again and making "career" politicians an illegal job.

It shouldn't be a career move to become a judge,senator,congressman,governor, and so on. The job shouldn't pay and you shouldn't be able to serve any longer term than that of the president. Checks and ballances don't work when everyone is everyone else's butt buddy and you all get paid out of the same pockets behind closed doors.

And don't get me started on the intellictual state of the general public. To call them sheep would be insulting to our quilted 4 legged farm friends.

Public schools are a joke and none of them teach morals anymore.

I'm all for seperation of church and state but our public school system isn't doing it anymore.

Give all that money to churches to open public schools. If your not christian go to the (insert relegion here) church across town.

I don't care what relegion you are if your going buddist/christian/jewish/hindu/islam place of worship at least your kids are picking up on morals/values from being their. They are not going to get it from the Greenville school district nor are they going to get it from family guy reruns.

I disagree partly. We shouldn't toss out the baby with the bathwater. We need term limits. I say 2 terms of 4 years is enough for most if not any elected position - as you addressed below.

I disagree here too. Government obs need to pair a fair wage for the position. If the jobs do not pay you will end up with a pauper or someone who is so wealthy they do not have to be paid to work. You won't have any regular working stiffs.

How about School Choice? Taxes for education are paid to educate the public. Why in the heck can't a parent take the money that would be spent on educating their child in the public school system and transfer it to a private school? The student would still be educated. Oh wait, that's why, the government wants your money.
