Ok so i purchased myself a 1994 Landcruiser VX Limited. The truck is still in japan. Could anuone tell me a little more about the engine, the good and bad before i get. Turbo kits for it? Where to get them from? Any other engine mods i could do and where i could buy them from? Im very new to the scene altough do have lot of experience with vdubs and bimmers but not the 4x4 and especially diesel world so anu help will do! Thanks

VX limited is already turboed... Look up HDJ81 and 1HDT engines on this forum... You'll fine a lot of info.

If the model is truly the HZ engine, Look up that for turbo and again, you will find a lot of info.

HZJ81s have the 1hz in it.
I am curious on what you paid comparing to an HDJ81. PM me your FOB cost.
As for a turbo kit. I would say go the DENCO route.
Give John @ Radd cruisers a shout. I believe the system was $3000+-

x2

What are the specs on the truck?

I didn't know japan had the HZ in a Limited... I though they reserved that engine for more industrial uses.

Yeah, and the U? What is that designation? Either way, if it is mismarked, you will have the turbo right off. If not, kits are not too tough to source or install.

One note... If the truck ends up being a HDJ81 as opposed to an HZJ80 you should plan on getting the BEBs done the minute it gets here. Look up BEBs on here for more info. If it is the 1HZ you should be fine.

Nice rig.

I didn't know this, you would figure that since it's virtually the same engine minus the turbo that it would have the same BEB problem....

Hopefully the guy chimes in with more info on his truck, although it doesn't seem like he did a lot of research into his truck before he bought it :S

Cheers

Hi, BTW very nice rig. Really certain year 1HD-Ts had the BEB problem, others didn't but since they are a cheap fix the standard thinking is to just replace them whenever you get the rig or at your next oil change. Following the same line of thinking as you stated above, given that they are in many respects the same engine didn't the 1HZs have the problem? No, they actually never developed the problem but just to be extra special cautious I just ordered and recieved a set of BEB's and bolts from the special folks at Radd Cruisers. Very economical. They will go on at my next oil change. When the present ones get pulled I will be looking them over for wear and also going through the waste oil to m ake sure that there is no metal in there:eek:. I suspect that I will find neither, wear or untoward metal bits.

Assuming such, I plan to follow my normal practice of wrapping up the still good but replaced part and saving it as a spare, just in case.

Good to know, let us know what you discover your next oil change!

Cheers.
