So I've gone 'off-road' a couple times, nothing serious; certainly none of the butt-scraping rock crawling like in the pix from moab and the like.

I know enough to know I don't know anything about off-roading, except that the 100/LX is a mountain goat - with the right equipment...

The pan that is below the engine bay - does that count as a skid protector?

I haven't gone underneath to really get a look at it, so I'm not sure how thick it is. I haven't noticed anything called that on Slee or elsewhere, but that could just be because I'm not looking properly.

Most or allof the pans under the 100 are plastic. I would suggest you look into the Slee or other suppliers suggestions if you plan to come in contact with mother earth.

that front plate that you can see when kneeling in front of your LX is metal. farther back under teh motor is plastic and there are some other small skidplates made of metal under there.

Back to that front plate...i was doing some "drifting" not really but, on my street one snow day and well...went off course a little bit and ran over a large rock at the end of my driveway. Put a nice dent in my plate and slightly bent one of the flanges that the bolts for the lower control arm go into. I doubt it really did anything suspension wise but those front plates arent too strong.

Like drsales said, look to slee-offroad for serious offroad protection.

The only commercially available skid plate (sump guard) I've heard of is from TJM of Australia. Might be possible to special order. Doing a custom job locally might prove more cost effective.
