I've scoured the forums and can't find what I'm after.

I now own two HJ 47's.

A 1982 HJ47 with a 12HT and 5spd gearbox
and a 1984 HJ 47 with a 2H and 4spd gearbox

The 84 model is in pretty good nic and the 82's body is a little tired (but engine and gearbox are strong). As a result I just want to do a straight engine/gearbox swap btn the two.
Am i right in understanding that;
1) the engine mounts are the same?
2) I'll have to swap crossmember for the longer 5spd gearbox?
3) I'll have to cut the tunnel to fit gearstick through?
4) Will have to swap drive shafts as well?

What else am I missing (there must be some electrical things I'm missing)?

Any help appreciated, as I'm a relative mechanical noob.

The shift tower if farther back on the 5 speed shifter cover but the extra length is at the adapter for the transfer case.
If you already have the crossmember it may bolt as it did for the 4 speed.
The lengths of the drive shaft will also need to be adjusted because the output flanges on the transfer case will be farther back.

I am doing a Cummins R2.8 and H55F with split transfer case on my FJ40. My adapters used the 2F bell housing and was able to use those motor mounts and just replace the front motor mounts. I needed that crossmember since my 40 never had one.

If you get a hold of Georg Ester I see he now has FJ40 shifter covers that he did not have when I bought my transmission.

You may also be able to switch the transmission covers from one to the other.

I got a FJ60 cover that will grafted into my transmission cover.

The location of where the transfer case shifter comes through may be farther back also.
