There are too many variables to provide a useful response. There are a number of good threads on replacing the factory sub that a few searches will find.

Thank you. I want to keep the stock amp to continue powering the front/rear speakers. But use the amp that comes with the sub.

I think I will need to use RCA splitters for the RCA connectors. And connect the amp remote to both amps.

I did the same setup but bypasses the stock amp so the head unit now powers my door speakers. Most head units will sound better and have more power over the stock amp. There is a write up somewhere on how to bypass the amp, not sure where I found it. I had my head unit running through the stock amp for a few month, then bypassed it when I got a cheap bazooka tube. Door speakers are MUCH better when run off the head units built in amp only.

I second the response of searching through the stereo threads here and also check out the stereo stuff at Stereo Wiring: Land Cruiser / LX 470 (1998-02)

Now, I'll throw my opinion in here too.

#1 If you don't have a head unit yet, look for something with multiple preouts...splitting RCA outputs and reducing the voltage on them is never a good thing...amp should be able to compensate with gain, but clean, higher voltage is always better. Course that's possibly a moot point once you get into this process anyway...because...
#2 The factory amp does not have RCA inputs... It uses a wiring harness, some folks just splice speaker level inputs in, but most get bad results with noise...some interface with a converter such as the JL Cleansweep...no experience or opinion there...just something for you to search on.
#3 The factory amp isn't particularly great or anything anyway. A quality head unit will drive the speakers just as well. So, most people bypass the factory amp and connect the input and output harnesses to utilize the factory wiring. Then you would just hook up your sub via RCA as expected...

The stereo has a 40x4 amp. The stock is 300 amps. I would think the stock is better?

Also, i think i should be okay splitting the RCA's to the two amps as i see it has Front / Rear / Sub RCA 6V Line out.

I have tried with stock amp, and with head unit power only. Head unit is much better sound and volume. Out of the 300 watt stock amp I would guess 100 watts at least are routed to the factory subs??

This weekend i installed the radio and used a wiring kit which allows me to use the existing factory amp. This allowed the new HU to have a free RCA connector to an amp.

So i should now be able to use my combo sub/amp i had sitting in the garage. :)

One other question i have:
The stock stereo had to antenna connectors where as the new HU has only one. Does anyone have a part number of a Y splitter i can use to connect both antennas?
