I've got a 1995 Tioga C class, It came Stock with two golf cart 6 volt batteries, in series, for the 12v required for the coach battery system. I am on the 2nd set and they are on the way out. Was wondering if one Yellow top optima or similar deep cycle would be just as good in replacement of the series 6v set up?

the 6volt batteries are lead acid and have lasted 7 years (because they have been maintained carefully from the get go). Cost of the two 6v or around $100 each. I'm pretty sure that most late model coachs (at least C class) are run on one 12v battery from the factory.

I do not put much demand on my batteries. Have gen set and the frig is ac or gas. biggest draw is once or twice a year the heater blower has to run most of the night in cold weather. Never had the 6v series system go down. So no reason to switch unless there is a reason to switch (huh?)..I don't see any $$ savings but could see the hassle factor going down with a liquid acid free battery..

whatdoyathink?

Thanks

What about two 12v batteries in parallel?

Never been that impressed with my yellow top, or the red top that came before it. The blue top may be what you want...

Well I dunno, about the 2x12v? didn't think about that. Ignorance being key here, like I say I don't put a hard drain on it now...some reading at night, a fan on every now and then...

ditto on the yellow top...I'm not a big fan of Optima, don't see the $$:value ratio working out...but would go with somebody's non-liquid style deep cycle battery. Of course the 6v "golf cart" batteries are deep cycle too, not starters no need for CCAs.

if you aren't pushing it too hard, I'd price out some 12v deep cycle batteries besides optimas... there are plenty of them out there.

I think Sears carries a Golf Cart/RV battery for under $100.

check RV.net, lots of info

Thanks Sandcruiser

that's what I was looking for, a little discussion about it...I'm sticking with the 6v batteries. worked fine through to sets and I don't see any reason to change...That's a good site too. My tioga is 12 years old and just turned 50K miles so little has gone down on it. Tires and batteries, I bookmarked the site for future reference.
