You need to use the Cruiser Pitman arm, so this is probably the problem.
My experience is that the mini truck pitman is too short to fully articulate the FJ40 linkage in EITHER direction.

Sorry it took me so long to get back to this. The Stock FJ40 cured all the problems except for the pain the mini-arm was to get off. With the stock cruiser arm, I get a full turning radius.
