Hey guys I was just given a turbo and I am not sure if it is to small for my 1hz.
the numbers on the turbo
front intake. Garrett E-C1 A/R .61 M24
Exhaust FJW-1 1-1/2 M3 A/R .47
there is a tag on the front with Garrett Japan GK 01071 , 24100-4460 , 732409-9

the mate that gave the turbo to me said it was off a 3.4ltr diesel can't remember what.

My question, Can anyone here decipher these numbers e.g. GT28 , bush or bearing
would this be a good fit for my 1hz.
any help would be great.
thanks in advance.

Paul

IF it was a toyota 3.4 diesel,it was most likely a 3B/13BT

I mainly just want to put a turbo on my cruiser to give it a little bit more power for towing my camper trailer. I only want to run low boost probably 8psi. because a lot of reading I have done a lot of people say keep the boost low and it will still run for ever. I currently have 310000 on the clock.
when the time come to fit the turbo I will be doing the valve clearance and the big end bearings.

I am just not sure if this turbo is to small or will be a good fit for my engine.

You'll be fine running a bit higher with a cooler egt temp
I am waiting for my gturbo to arrive

I am pretty sure he said the turbo was off a hino dutro with the 3.4 ltr.
my concern is the rear housing is a a/r of .47 to small. or will this just come on boost very fast. my engine does not see over 3000rpm much, it is more of a family cruiser to pull the camper trailer around.
I have been trying to find specs on this turbo but I can't, google is not my friend.

yeah dougal might be the guy to voice in about this.
are you on a budget? Graeme apparently makes one hell of a turbo.

I would not say a budget, but I would like to get it done for as cheap as possible.
I will be doing all the work myself. the only reason I will be going ahead is if this turbo will be fine for my engine. if the turbo is to small I will keep looking for one at the right price. then

Should work.

hey guys, I have still been searching to try and find out info on this turbo, If my understanding is correct the rear housing being a A/R .47 dose this mean it will spool up very fast.
I have read that the best turbo for my engine is a GT2860rs. how close is my turbo to one of these.
Seam the rear housing is a/r .47 on mine is it just a matter of changing the rear housing to a a/r 60 or do I have to change the exhaust wheel as well.
I hope this makes sense.
thanks

it should be capable of .. but remember boost it's always related to fuel and load .. also you will probably found that .47 AR will be bit restrictive for top rpm range ..

I investigated turboing a 3B a few months ago and this bloke was extremely helpful: brisbanetuning.com.au: Home Page

..especially considering I was just some geezer on the end of the phone. Can't remember his name but he was a really good fella, very helpful. Knew his s*** too.

The GT2860RS is a turbo that is fantastic for 2 litre petrol engines. It's not a good match for any diesel.

The A/R is only one aspect of a turbo, by itself it doesn't mean much. Do you have the model code of your turbo? It's either on a tag on the bearing housing or on the compressor cover.

Hey guys thanks for the responses, as for the rear housing being .47 I thought this might be to small, is it just a matter of changing it for a bigger rear housing.

Dougal: as for the numbers on the tag all the numbers I can find on the turbo are in the first post, I have searched these numbers many times on the net but I can't find what the specs are. I got in contact with a turbo shop over the net looking for a rebuild kit and they said that the turbo is exclusive to hino and they could not help me out with any parts.

as for the rear housing do I just measure the rear wheel and find a match with a bigger A/R.

thanks

Can you post a photo of it?
There are many different turbo variations, but most belong to a common family with some parts interchange.

A quick google of the 6 digit garrett code pulled up GT2259 from a Hino NO4C.
A quick google of Hino NO4C showed they are 4 litres capacity.

It will work fine.

here are a couple of photos. hey Dougal may I ask what numbers you searched to find out what it was off, as I had no luck finding anything.
thanks

Thought so, that's the garett with the sideways flange which is usually all over ebay.

The garrett code is always 6 digits, followed by a dash and a version number. In this case 732409-9. Ignore the -9 and just google the 6 digit code.

So I measured the wheel sizes, Comp wheel 42/59 turbine 42/49, so back to the original question is it worth fitting to my 1HZ or should I look for another turbo, and if so what size turbo would you recommend for a 1HZ.
