looking for some help. I have a 2004 Tundra 4x4 double cab. Just installed a basic 2.5" lift with strut spacers in the front and blocks and new shocks in the back. I have stock 265/65/17. I want to do a 285/70/17. After the lift I have about a 1" clearance between the tires and upper control arms. I'd like to keep the stock wheels and powdercoat them black. Looked into some 1.25" spacers? After reading mixed reviews on them stressing wheel bearings, ball joints etc... I'm not sure if I shouldnt look into new wheels? The expense of new wheels is tough right now. Any suggestions?

I had an 01 with a 2.5" lift and ran the same size tires with 17s for a couple years. Never had an issue. Not sure how different the 04 DC is though.

You can run 285/75 r16 and not rub. Make sure and do a dif drop, get new clamps for your cv boots and do an alignment. You will have issues if you don't. ( I have an 04 with the same setup, I highly recommend Goodyear Duratracs)

If you do get spacers although not recommended or necessary, get the Spidertrax hub-centric ones, run a little Loctite and torque to spec.

I'm installing the diff drop tomorrow along with one axle. Passenger side is toast along with the inner boot. I've decided to new wheels. The cost of powder coating and spacers if needed would be just a little less than wheels. I haven't decided on tires yet. But, I'll check out the duratracs.

You'll be fine with 4.5" BS and 285s

I call BS on using a diff drop...

tilting the front of the diff down
does little to give the CV any real extended life

waste of money... waste of time.

I lowers the dif a minimum of .5", they are only $30 and take about 20 minutes to install. Very commonly endorsed, either way I don't like IFS spring lifts over 2" anyhow.

Cheap insurance in my book.

KC, make sure and do an alignment as well.
