I’m not sure this is the right forum but this question is somewhat specific to Tundra/Sequoia so I’m putting it here. I have a 2011 Tundra doublecab and I’m a big music guy but it came with the basic factory system—4 speakers in the doors, two tweeters in dash corners, no sub, non-JBL version. The sound is really tinny even with a decent audio source, plus the head unit works intermittently. I know I’m going to upgrade the head unit and, most likely, the front door speakers and component tweeters. That would mean leaving the existing rear door speakers. I think I can get the head unit and front doors/tweeter done for around $600-700, which would be fine. Planning to order from Crutchfield and install myself. A few questions if anyone has done something similar and has any thoughts:

1. Does it make sense to upgrade the front doors and tweeters without touching the back doors? Seems like that’s a reasonable value proposition, plus I’m never in the backseat anyway and the kids won’t know the difference. But maybe that will mess up the balance or imaging or some other audio term so I shouldn’t do it (I’m no audiophile).

2. Any recommendations on specific speakers either for sound or ease of install in the Tundra? I care mainly about midrange and high end, clarity over thump…mainly listening to bluegrass and sad country these days. I’ve seen a couple of component sets from Polk and JL Audio on Crutchfield that seem to fit the bill if anyone has experience with those.

3. Anything else I‘m not thinking about? I know I could put in a better backup camera at the same time but I’m OK with my tiny little image in the rearview. And I know I’ll have to pay extra for a wiring kit that interfaces with the steering wheel controls.

And since this is my first post I suppose I should introduce myself. Have been lurking for years and learned a ton from these forums but never bothered to set up an account. As I mentioned, I have a 2011 Tundra w/ TRD and have been able to leave it pretty close to stock since it just sees mud in Alabama and a little sand down at the Gulf, no rock crawling for sure. Been a Toyota driver the bulk of my life. I believe my ownership history, in order, is a 92 Camry, 83 FJ40, 00 Tundra, 01 Sequoia, and now the 2011 Tundra. All great vehicles. Never shoulda sold the 40 but I was trying to be an adult and whatnot.

Anyway, thanks in advance.
