Tundra instead of my 80?

I do not believe a tundra can off road better than a locked land cruiser.

All I can say is that the tundra went up things that the land cruiser wouldn't. (both totally stock and at that time it was my second time ever wheeling so drivers didn't have much to do with it)

Was it a huge Tundra or a small Tacoma? Big difference and Taco can wheel in stock form. A tundra will not fit on most trails.

I would suspect if both are open diffs, then the Tundra and LC would be similar in offroading ability. The differences will come in the type of terrain.

The Tundra would have an advantage in situations where the leaf spring rear was keeping better traction than a set of coils.

A LC would have better traction in places where the coils/flex allowed it to keep all 4 wheels on the ground.

If I get a Tundra, step #1 for offroading will be a rear locker and rock sliders. Add a winch up front and you can get thru most stuff. Front lockers are nice but are mostly for very technical rock crawling (like the ledge / pre Kodak area)

I have listed the 80 up for SALE ($6500) or trade over at NC4x4, here is a quick link.

[Trade] 1993 Toyota LandCruiser (with elockers!) - North Carolina 4x4 Forum

There have been quite a few Tundras selling in that ballpark range so I might end up with one of them. Would love a 100 series LC and if the right deal or trade comes along I will go in that direction! [If the Atlanta 100 was still around when the 80 sold I prob could come up with the extra couple grand to get it!]

Sam, would you be interested in selling the sliders, I know this guy that also has a white '93 that would love to get his hands on a set locally ;)

I ended up having Michael weld the sliders on there, it was that or they were going to end up hanging down really low in a couple places going around the exhaust, etc.

So they are part of the truck! :D

Sell yours, yank the goodies and put them on this one with E lockers! :D (I was thinking yours was open, u might have lockers too!)

Sam

Well it looks like a fellow IH8Mudder from TN and I are going to trade vehicles!! I will be getting a 96 Dodge Ram with the 5.9L (360) 4x4.

I still may end up back with a 98+ cruiser at some point in another year or two when they come down some more in price or a Tundra. Course I can always borrow my dads 2000 Tundra too.

Concrete/JFZ, one of you mentioned having some tires for sale, Nittos maybe? I am looking at a 2" leveling kit for the front of the Dodge so might be looking for set of more aggressive tires.

If all goes well, will be making the trade in a couple weeks! Wish it was still a yota but sometimes you make the deal that makes the most sense right now. (Also thinking I may pickup a cheap SAS Toyota pickup for a beater too)
