hi, im just kinda tryin to figure something out... sometime around the end of the summer im planning on doin an SAS on my 1990 toyota pickup and also maybe four linkin the rear. well the reason im postin this is because i am definatelly going to need a truck to drive while this is happening and probably will keep this truck. im not really sure what year the first tundra was made but i saw a picture of a black one with probably 38's and these blue lower a arms. i was tryin to figure out what kit that was and wanted to see what yall have done to any of your early model toyota tundra's.

I've got a 2000 Tundra 4x4 SR5 - good solid truck. It's just my tow rig and winter commuter vehicle, so it's pretty much stock.

Do the front rotor/caliper upgrade and change the timing belt every 80k and you'll have no complaints.

wow thats it? hmm that sounds pretty good to me

There are very few cons to the early tundras- there's quite a few running around with 250-400k on the original motor/drivetrain. The 2UZ-FE 4.7 was also used in the 100 series cruisers. It's not a hot rod motor (approx 250 hp) but I've yet to be in a situation where the truck seemed underpowered.

In 05/06 models the engine was reworked to produce approx 280hp, but you'll pay a lot more for the newer models, and it's not worth it just for the additional power. Towing capacities remained unchanged. Also, the early models were straight imports- in 01 0r 02 they started making them in the US.

I've got a stock 2000 TRD V8 SR5 ex cab.....Tow rig , Work truck, hunting vehicle,........It's been a good truck , so I've left it alone.

I need to do the brake upgrade as well.

But yeah , it's been a great truck , it's got plenty of real world power/torque.

Wasn't the brake issue fixed in '03 , MO ?

Aren't the blue lift's Total Chaos ?

Toyota did put larger rotors/calipers on the later models, but I don't know what year they started.

awesome... has anyone seen a picture of the black early body style tundra that was for sale on ebay that looked like it was pushin 37's? it was blacked out and had the big blue a arms... it had a litttle light bar in front also...
