Looking at the Bilstein 5100 options for front and rear. I found BILSTEIN 5100 lengths of the shocks seen below. I know its been done but I wanted some people to give their real-world input for those that have some of these setups.

VehicleLocationExtended LengthCompressed LengthNotes
4runner (3rd)FRONT18.27"13.66"
Tundra (1st)FRONT18.35"13.23"Does the tiny amount of extended length cause an issue?
4runner (3rd)REAR20.79"12.91"
Tundra (1st)REAR22.4"13.84"Does the longer compressed length cause an issue?
Will the longer extended length allow the stock spring to fall out?
Do you have to change the bottom bushings?
4Runner (4th)REAR23.5"14.9"Spring will fall out if not longer.
Stops need to be longer.

I'm leaning toward the Tundra 5100 front and rear, mostly because you can get them on Amazon for $430. Getting the "Long Travel" 4th gen rear shocks means you have to buy them separately and it raises the cost. I'm trying to go cheap on this 4Runner, I saved it from a fate of being parted out (was in a minor wreck, had the driver's Lower Ball joint Bolts Shear off, BUT is a 5-speed 4x4 E-locked).

Also looking at putting 1st gen Tundra Junkyard coils on the front. Here is some info I found on Tundra Lift Amounts for 3rd Gens.
Stock 4x2 AC:
driver side = white/yellow marks
passenger side = white/blue marks
Stock 4x4 AC: 7/8" Lift
driver side = green/yellow marks
passenger side = green/blue marks
TRD 4x2 AC: 1-1/2” Lift
driver side = yellow/red marks, orange/red marks
passenger side = yellow/purple marks, orange/orange marks
TRD 4x4 AC: Lift?
driver side = yellow/yellow marks, Blue/orange marks, Blue/Blue marks
passenger side = yellow/blue marks, Blue/Red marks, blue/green marks, Green/Green marks

"Does the tiny amount of extended length cause an issue?" yes. your OEM CV joints will bind at full droop, you will need a limit strap or extended CVs. I have tundra length shocks and extended cvs not sure the juice is worth the squeeze, just more $$ and problems to solve for minimal gains

mine is set up with 6112 tundra fronts and 3rd gen 5100s rear but if I were to do a simple more budget setup this is what it would be:
  • TRD tundra springs Left Coil Part Number: 48131-AF100 Right Coil Part Number: 48131-AF090 with 3rd gen length shock. maybe the stock style strut and make rubber doughnut spcers to put on the lower spring perch so I can add preload to adjust height or just get 5100s
  • whatever rear suv shocks and springs I find cheap like 80 series or 4runner 3rd/4th/5th gen
I would loosely follow this for part numbers and info 1996-2002 - Classic System 1.2 - https://www.sonoransteel.com/products/1996-2002-classic-system-1-2 and check this out too https://www.toyota-4runner.org/3rd-gen-t4rs/101758-**rickashays-ome-vs-trd-tundra-lc-review**.html
