Since 1990 i start to restore a fj-40 1978
The frame was sandblast -vinyle wash-epox paint
all mechanic redone whit original parts look like new

I stop everyting when i was confronted from my rusty tub
In Montréal Canada whe used a lot of de-iced salt in winter
Only the fired wall is relly worth to be rebuilt

I read everyting on the net since 2 day
No solution for me fiber or alu.
I really want to see all those detail in the steel body

Almost all tlc vendor parts are in Sud west (California -Texas) way to costly to send a big parts
Not to much vendor in Ney-Work state and around conty
Montreal Québec and Ontario don't even think to find a used parts

So a have 3 solution
Try to find a fj-40 whit a good body whit out 22 bondo paint job
Find a aftermarket tub(so far no much choice on the market )
(Tlc -pilgim-heritagesteel) hard to get a good information
or sale my fj-40

Whit all those picture i see
The fj-40 is a very nice 4x4 truck
Worth to try to save theme as original as possible

Fj-40 looking for a nice tub top put on is frame

contact Wally at Poor Wally's Landcruiser Emporium in Bennington, VT. farmboy@sover.net he's about 3 hours from Montreal

Wally makes custom tubs that are twice as thick steel as stock ones. they are very strong...they're tough to dent and tough against rust.

x2. He does really good work. You will have to haul your truck down to him, though.

cineconcept,
come to Burlington (actually Bristol) VT, and you can check mine out in person, if you would like. Wally built tub, long time ago. Still good as new.

don't look too close. :)

Two split original rears, cut the overlapping lip off, welded them together and added a 1" square stock across the inside bottom where it had rusted out (and for strength) And reinforced the joint weld with a 3" strap welded to the back. Follow all that?

I then took the original center latch and welded it on the end to the tub.

It is a 10 foot job (looks good from 10 feet) as I suck at teh bodywork.
