I've been thinking about getting a set of these, but I've come across several reviews that mention sidewall blowouts at highway speeds under load. Specifically on heavier trucks. Anybody?

I,ve had my 33's for over 3 years with no problems. I failed to rotate on time so they cupped a little. I have pulled a 18ft car hauler with my vette on it for 450 miles. No problems. I'll be buying my next set soon. This time they will be 37's. My 33's still have good tread now, but it's time to go bigger. Saving the 33's for my offroad trailer.

Friend of mine had the side lugs delaminate...

Two friends both experienced fast wear. Much quicker than my BFG M/T's

I've had mine for 2 years and no problems. I don't think they have really worn any faster than any other agressive M/T tire.

I have very little experience with these (2 months) but I would agree that the rubber is of a softer compound than say a BF Mud. I really like that because I have put these tires to the test several times and they really have come through. I got SERIOUSLY in over my head the last time out and I credit these tires in getting me out of a really tricky off camber situation. I just could not get over the bite these tires offer while not loading up.

Sidewall strength was certainly a consideration when I ordered mine in the 285 variety. The tire is a 2 ply sidewall. I had also read some posts on this forum where some offered concern with sidewall strength. After some of Paragon's jagged rocks to put them to the test, they have faired better than expected. I would recommend these tires again in a second.

I do not like these tires as a DD. The soft rubber compound with the large lugs really changed the charateristics of the handling of my truck.

HTH with some of your original questions... I have LOTS of pics on my truck and off if you would like.... just ask.

my only blowout problems stemmed from not airing them up for short jaunts on paved roads at speeds building quite high tire temps. once I was driving home and couldn't figure why I was going so slow. twenty miles down the road I remembered why and still had to drive another ten to get air.

Yes, they will get hot at road speeds if you leave them aired down. Given what I've put them through offroad, however, I'm not concerned about a sidewall blowing out with a properly inflated tire. I'd be a lot more concerned about taking a BFG offroad for hard core rock crawling.

Trxus are interesting...by nature any Interco tire is not a conservative choice, but I buy them as a conservative choice because they are so unbelievable in the snow (packed, slushy, or deep) while being good onroad and an awesome rock tire. In other words, this is my family tire for living as much of an outdoor life as possible in Colorado with small kids in potentially variable conditions. Take snow out of it and MT/R's are probably worth the extra $15 just for the whole balance/rotate thing.

BFG's, on the other hand, probably don't need to be on your list these days unless you are stuck in the mid 90's, have an achy breaky heart, and are possibly still sporting at least a small mullet :flipoff2:

Nay

I've had mine for about two years now. No issues. IIRC, the sidewall blowouts were a problem with some of the early early TrXus MTs. I have not read about those problems recently, however, I haven't been reading TrXus reviews for a long time either.

Great tire by the way.

I've had Nay's old ones for a little over a month now.. they're grrrrrrrrrreat! Drove them to Moab & back pulling my popup. Also drove around Moab all week aired down to 17, including the 10-12 miles or so back from Kane Creek. They sure feel squishy when aired down on pavement and vibrate a little around 50 mph.. hmm maybe I shouldn't have done that...

easiest way to describe the difference offroad compared to BFG's is pretend you're a cat climbing a tree and you just figured out how to get your claws out.

Thanks for all the input.....

I'm running Revos and Nitto TG's curently. Both are great tires. The Nitto's get the nod for off road performance, but they are short on tread life. The Revo is the best AT ever made IMHO and gives outstanding service.

I am looking for something more aggressive that is asphalt freindly. Need tires in 35 12.5 16.5 and 285 75 16 sizes. Superduty and Landcruiser fitment. Or I'm thinking about going 295 on both to keep everything simple.

I think I may have found a winner for the 295 size. Anybody try this tire yet?

I'm glad you like them so much. I know in Moab you were excited to try them out.

One of our club members lost a sidewall on his four month old Truxxus MTs a few weeks ago. Ripped open about 10" near the bead forcing him and his trailer into oncoming traffic. Everybody kept their heads and he was able to regain control and stop the rig. The tire shop gave him a new tire at a discount. Seemed pretty cheap to me considering. Oh the rig is a '97 Dodge Cummins 3/4ton. Never been off road.

Update. A *second* tire completely blew out on the same truck. My buddy is very hesitant to take this truck anywhere until he can get rid of these tires. The sales droid had the nerve to tell him that they are really off road tires with no warrentee and shouldn't be driven over 30 mph! I'd love to have had that on tape! Interco is going to lose the most loyal customer they have. This truck is used exclusively for highway and only got swampers because he has them on each of his other rigs. Untill now he loved Swampers.
He's shopping for a set of Toyo MTs now. (and so am I)

OK - that does it. No Trxus Mt's for me. I'm going to stay with Nitto TG's and Revo's. TX for the update!!!!

I hate to hear that.

Hope you don't have any problems, but if you do I'd be on the horn to Interco ASAP.

Interesting note - have you ever noticed that Interco goes to great lengths to disclaim production responsibility on the Trxus series of tires?

Hmmmm - wonder why?

I so wanted these on my 16.5 wheels on my f350 due to the high load rating like 3700+ lbs that is hard to come by in a 38.5" tire. Is this sidewall problem isolated to the smaller 6 and 4 ply sidewalls or are the 10 ply in the size I am after affected as well?
