So hopped in the :princess: truck to head out to church last night. Turned it over....and it didn't stop starting. Yup, got the starter issue that seems to turn up when it gets cold out.

To make matters worse, I couldn't get the :censor: cables off the :censor: terminal. When the :princess: got the oil changed, the place had put some anti-corrosion stuff on there, and tightened everything down "man" tight. I went to plan B, which was to whack the starter with my torque-hammer. It eventually stopped (before the battery died), so I'm hoping I knocked it loose rather than burned up the starter.

Hopped in my truck today to head to work....and it's stumbling. Bad enough that if I accelerate it throws a CEL. If I kinda idle it along I can accelerate up to speed, but can't get past about 40. Feels exactly like it did when I had water in the dizzy.

I wonder if all the moisture in the engine compartment got into the dizzy again....that heat shielding on the hood really absorbs and holds it in.

Haven't pulled the code yet (just got home). Gonna have to either track down (or buy) a code reader, or do the paper clip trick. Guessing I'll see a misfire code.

At least the fog has burned off so the sun is out. Going to go :wrench: on the truck(s) when it warms up. I wonder if Lithia has the plunger and what-not to fix the starter (and how far I'm going to have to bend over). Yay. :bang:

Gabe,

I have a scan guage II if you need it.

I bet it is still water in the distributor. You hit that puddle hard enough that it could have water (and now frozen water) in every orifice known to man. Park it in the sun with the hood up for the day and pull the cap off and clean it when it gets warmer.

It made a great splash though! :hillbilly:

(Hey Jerod, where's the vid!)

We did dry it pretty well at the ponds. It got warm enough yesterday though that I bet it got super humid under the hood.

I guess I might as well pull it and do the breather mod on it. As long as I'm tearing it apart to clean it......

Gabe,

I might hit you up on that. Or I might just go buy a cheap code reader for $10. Worst cases scenario I can limp over to NAPA and get it read there.

I'm gonna try the dizzy first, if that doesn't take care of it, on to plan B.

pull the cap and spray some WD-40 in there, if water is the dizz is the issues that should take care of it.

I like the Idea of the Hest shield on the Hood, that damn thing is like a sponge wihen it come to water. I hope it works out. If you can hold off on the starter, call C-Dan and get a way better price then the stealerships.

Well, I waited until it warmed up to go out there. Pulled off the dizzy cap again. It wasn't wet, but it was definitely moist.

Also found the 2nd of 3 vent holes. Sucker is huge. No wonder water got in there....

The heat shielding was also still soaked, and dripping a bit. Probably where the water came from to get back into the dizzy....

Ya after the ponds my CEL light came on cruising on 62 on the way home. Didnt feel like dealing with yesterday. Today hopped in CEL was still on drove 5 or so miles to run an errand. When I started the 2nd time it went off :):) Yippie.

Very well could be the dizzy for you too.

Since your idle is already lower than it should be, it wouldn't take much to trigger the CEL.

I think its sorta sorted itself out, at the least the low idle. Since we did the phh and pulled the power and reset ecu like you said I think it has re-learned. Seems to running a lot better. :) Going to check the dizzy and couple others things while im cleaning her today.

Come on over and I can help you clean your dizzy. :D

Are you off?

So Tyler came over and lent me a hand. Drove me to Walmart to pick up an OBDII reader (where they were out of their $30 one and only had their $100 one....guess what's getting returned tommorrow?).

Turns out it was cylinder 1 misfiring. Popped the valve cover, and whoever had looked at it last hadn't gotten the boot flush, on one side it was on top of one of the wires. Turns out a bit of water got in there.

Blew it out with air, and good to go.

Also figured out that Tyler is getting a 12 and 71 error (low idle, and EGR). Hopefully his fix is as cheap as mine. :D

:D Stoked that his rig got fix nice and simple. But mine, good 'ol paper clip fired off to the best of our math the code above. (prolly going to run tomorrow and see what the results are from some shop with a ODB1 util, or ODBII with an adapter) IM PRETTY sure we can add, but.... ;)

Like earlier I was happy because after the ponds I got my CEL, and then went away...... Well then on our trip to wally world popped back on.... errg.

enough water to dent the middle of the hood down:eek:

glad you got it sorted, bigger cajones than me pal.

Eh, the 80's hoods are pretty flimsy. I've seen wind flex them quite a bit.
