There are plenty of places out there like that. I was told by a mechanic friend that Sullivan Tire has an unwritten rule that they try to get a minimum of $1K from every car. They find everything possible wrong and some questionable. Not specifically pointing out Sullivan Tire but plenty of those places do that.

Kabilian's is definitely not one of those.

Just a quick note on another trustworthy shop. Roses in Sherborn, MA is also a trustworthy shop. They fix everything from the local ambulance and police cars to my pathfinder and Land Cruiser (FJ-40).

They aren't Toyota speciailists, but the owner was a Toyota tech prior to opening the shop and has Toyota certified people on staff.

Hope this helps.

I just moved to Millis and I've been looking for a good place locally. Marshfield is too far now for basic repairs. I'll try those guys out!

al of the axle parts arrived. already ordered the gears, 4.88s with the rebuild kits from ringpinion.biz. nice guys. the gears wont be here til early next week. i am going to being the truck tot he place in marshfield and leave it so they can take their time... i cant wait til its all over!

Thanks for the tip on Kabilians. I need some work done on the 60 this fall.

As long as the don't charge Kabillions... Hah... get it? Kabilians... Kabillions.

I so funny.

shop to handle the re-gear - beating on the dead horse

okay... Kabilian's won't do the re-gear. i was glad he was upfront about it but said he didnt want to get into the details of it, its just not work they do regularly...

so, i am in search of a shop that can handle this. i have called a few guys in somerville and they say that can do it but have both never done one before.

any suggestions would be great. one thing to note is i cannot pull the thirds and ship them.

having said that, i think i am just going to go to cruiser solutions... its only an hour drive...

Sorry it didn't work out. Surprised he passed on it.

Its probably best that they came out and said that rather than chance screwing it up and having you unhappy about it.

I'm sure he could do it correctly but it's probably more of tying up a bay for that long when he has a steady stream of customers. I probably killed it for Peepers by torturing Kabilian with cruisers that constantly needed unobtainable parts. He's very honest and very thorough so I'm not surprised he passed if he didn't feel 100% about getting it right the first time.

Try B. Dargie Machine Co 138 Fisher St, Westboro 508-366-5955
They did my gears and ARB lockers there.

Call Tedd @ Cruiser Solutions in NH. They do Cruiser gear installs on a fairly regular basis. Might not be the cheapest guy on the block but I'm SURE they can do and have done the job before.

So... you're saying you don't have a place to pull the thirds and drop them off?

So... you're saying you don't have a place to pull the thirds and drop them off?

the only place i can really do anything is in the street, curbside. which isnt the end of rht world but its not easy. then, throw in the street cleaning and the inability not move the truck so it doesnt get towed when the 3rds are out and bam, i am screwed.

so, i called Ted... i am bringing the truck up there this saturday and leaving it for the week. i trust him, i feel better knowing rick took his truck there and it's still fine and i am going with it.

i got the precision gears and not the yukons. i also got a full rebuilt kit for both sides with the wheel bearings, all OEM from cruiser dan, including all the knuckle seals etc etc etc.

i am going to have him take a look at the front locker which is seized, while they are in there as well. all in, its only an hour drive from where i live. kablilians was going to be as far of a drive anyway...

How much did CDan get for the rebuild kit?

Yeah, I hear ya. Sucks not having a decent place to work.

I would have no reservations having Cruiser Solutions do the work. But it ain't gonna be cheap. I'm sure it will all work out for you, Tedd's crew does great work. Maybe I'll stop by and keep an eye on them, since I literally drive right past their shop every day.

Just be careful when you go in there, the toys in the showroom have a habit of sneaking on to your truck (and the bill). He's got some cool stuff in there to drool over.

yeah. that would be great ken! especially since i will be in montana while all the work is being done. i am meeting ted tomorrow morning when i drop of the truck. i think the ONLY thing i might have them do it toss on a warn 12k. other than that, the 80 is coming along really nicely. or, if he has a sweet roof rack there.

When I brought my truck up there I also brought along the FSM for Moe to use. He appreciated that as they had no manuals at the time for the truck.

thanks rick. will do.
