Many of the area residents of Troy on High ST, Mackey Hill RD, and Richmond RD have complained about large groups of "trucks" to the town Selectmen. The town Selectmen are now contemplating closing many of the Class 6 roads in the area. In addition this is not an issue isolated to Troy. Troy, Swanzey, and Richmond town officials have all begun discussing the "infestation" of trucks in their area. There have also been many complaints from other trail users and locals that recreate in the area out "others" damaging "their" roads.

All is not quite lost yet!

I talked with Shawn Mazerole and he is setting up a meeting between the NEA and the town selectmen. We will come to some type of resolution to attempt to continue our access.

AT THIS TIME:

I would ask the clubs using the property cancel their runs until further notice....If you insist on using the property DO NOT access the property through Troy! Only access the property from Swanzey.

Wondering if contacting the individual land owners would help, find out what they will be ok with, 10 truck minimum etc. Maybe we send people out in groups of 5 until they get on the access road.

Are they complaining about the "infestation" of all the leaf peepers or hikers? What about the positive economic impact these large group of "trucks" make in the area? People like to complain about dumb things..

Fall Crawl the 2 weeks later we send a couple of large groups in. I never use Troy because of issues a few years back.
Plus we have a pretty large group of local kids who don't really help with the wheeling image.
So it looks like there is a lot of trucks running around.

From what I was told the locals on Makey Hill RD got riled up on Memorial Day weekend and have been upset ever since....I've been trying to direct people away from Troy but unfortunately with little success.

I was able to attend this meeting with Jay (pres of NEA) and it went well. The swanzey property will be off limits to group runs for a little longer until more details are worked out.
But the good news is they will not be shutting down the property, there will just be more rules in place to reduce the traffic out there.
So please continue to stay out of this area until everything is finialized.

No date yet, but when I find out when i'll let you know. It will be a troy town meeting but it would be good to have a few locals from the surrounding towns be there too. Because from what I'm hearing the surrounding towns are just as upset but they are watching and waiting to see what Troy wants to do.
