Has anyone driven both an HZJ75 and HZJ78? We're just a few years away from being able to import the 78 with front coils, and I'm wondering how the ride compares between them. Can a well tuned 75 come close to a 78?

My HZJ78 was so brutally stiff in the suspension department before I put Terrain Tamer springs and shocks on it. I would imagine a 75 is similar? The transmission is less HD on the 78 as well, from what I understand.

Thanks @Buckow that's interesting perspective. I'm assuming springs/shocks will need to be replaced on a 75 regardless but good to know a stock 78 isn't perfect either. Great point about the gearbox as well.

You can make a leaf spring ride pretty good, and coils ride bad, but a good suspension on both will end with the coil springer riding better. There are always tradeoffs and price differences, but I would go for the best cruiser you can afford and want. I'd take an older cruiser in better shape, than a newer one that needs a lot more work, although an HDJ78 would be hard to turn down! I'm pretty sure the HDJ78 pulls quite a premium over the HZJ78/75.

You can always swap the suspension to coil front if thats a major point for you. @SNLC has swapped a few to coil front ends I believe and can give you the rundown on that.

I have owned both the 78 and currently the 75. With good shocks/springs the 75 is a pleasure to drive!
What kind of suspension you running? My 85 HJ75 Ute is pretty stiff with a still pretty new Dobinson 2” suspension. I even removed one leaf out of each pack per instructions from Dobinson.
