I haven't asked Kurt about this yet, and I'm sure he knows the answer. But I'll see what you all think first.

I've got an OME HD lift on my '85 60. Got the greaseable pins, OME shackles, OME yellow bushings. Of course, they get squeaky when they need grease. Up until just recently, a couple pumps of moly lithium grease would quiet everything right up (including the "clunk" everybody hears in the rear).

But now, one or both of the bushings in the ds rear fixed spring hanger just won't shut up. I've greased and greased, until it squirts out between the bushing and hanger, but it won't quiet the squeak. I've tried greasing with the suspension flexed at all different angles, even unbolted the spring pin and greased, etc. I haven't taken the pin all the way out yet to see if it's clogged.

Anybody had a similar experience, and know any tricks to get the thing to quit squeaking? Sounds like I'm riding around on an old set of box springs.

Thanks.

Use a grease nozzle in the hole for the yellow pads that are between the leaves. A squirt or two does it.

Unfortunately, I've already greased those yellow pads between the leafs, even prying apart the contact points that don't have the yellow pads and putting grease in there.

By rocking the truck back and forth while tracking down the squeak, I've pretty much isolated it to the bushings in the fixed spring hanger. Just seems like some point in the bushing circumference is not getting greased.

Thanks for the suggestions. I am afraid I just might have to get used to it. Not that big of a deal, just one of those things that'll drive you nuts on a bad day.

Try some silicone spray lubricant. Pry the bushings away from the sides of the bracket with a screw driver and let 'em have it. Keep that stuff far from the intake of any vehicle that is fuel injected, it kills sensors.

A friend who owns a local 4wd shop tells me that when a urethane bushing squeaks, regardless of it's age, it needs to be replaced. He doesn't a huge volume of OME bushings, so that may not apply to them - but it's food for thought.

Odd. My OMEs popped their entire life up to the point that they were shot. Only then did they shut up.

Good idea about prying them from the bracket and spraying with silicone. I'll try that.

I hope they aren't bad. Only have <10000 miles on them.

Slight hi-jack...

I know the question was basically how to grease the bushing.

I wanted to suggest a great grease to use for assembly. You can buy tiny tubes that are something like 1/10 oz. size, or you can get a 14 oz. tube, that's what I got.

Urethane Grease : Maximum Motorsports, the Latemodel Mustang Performance Suspension Leader!

Excellent stuff, been using is for years. Its waterproof and sticky as a mo fo! Works very well on urethane and delrin.

Sorry for hi-jack!
