I reviewed that this morning maybe something for a Hamon.

I am thinking about doing this.
 
Maybe I'll get a set for the 4runner when I get it. Maybe then I can afford an OME lift right away.

Why didn't you get them for the LX?

Discount Tire Direct...since I am still member of FJ Cruiser forum I contacted the sponsor and asked for a quote on three sets of tires (BFG KM2, Nitto Trail Grapplers, Dick Cepek Mud Country). The 5 tires delivered to my door were cheapest for the Nitto....plus I have been interested in them since they came out a few months ago. I am very happy...
 
trail grapplers are more aggressive than terra grapplers, right???
 
yes, trail grapplers are the love child of Terra Grapplers and Mud Grapplers. Tread pattern is very much like the old BFG MT or the current Firestone Destination II in my opinion....but with more side bars and siping.
 
I should have my new tires next week. But to get ready to wheel I may need some help fixing a fuel supply line issue and checking out my transfer case since my 4x4 light is on and will not go off.
 
If it were mine, now would be the time when I converted it to mechanical shift 4wd and got rid of the crappy electric shift.

Benke will chime in though, as he is more familiar with the 62's. I hope you have the hubs unlocked or you could pop a birf running around in 4wd all the time.

Ya I got it unlocked. I think it could be a bad light becuase I think it will go into and out of 4 wheel drive.

I want to wheel my old one some it deserves one true 4x4 trip. I also don't want to tear my new one up on the first trip
 
The tires come tomorrow. I wil post some picks and let y'all know how it is. My 62 is a bear to drive since it has no a/c it is really hot. It needs an alighnment to. But it will be wheel sometime. Legally or illegally.
 
I got the tires and they look good. They are all on current BFG a/t side walls. If you did not see the mud tread you would never know they retreads
 
Hope you have good luck with them.

I did some more research on these, and turns out the problem with retreads in the past had nothing to do with the tread, glue, etc. It was all in the fact that they were using used tires for carcasses. The sidewalls would wear out just as much as the tread, so you would have inferior sidewalls and blowouts.

The "real" retread places will actually strip the rubber off the sidewalls, and repair any cords, and then re-rubber the sidewalls giving you a close to new tire. Not sure if this company does that, but just be aware that BFG sidewalls are inherently weak from the factory, and having been used already through a whole tread life can't make it any better.:cheers:

Hope I am wrong, as I would like to save some coin and be able to trust these one day. Just not on a modified, top heavy rig with my family in it.

I think where the side wall meets the tread they have stregthen the side wall. I figure if I keep right air pressure and watch the tires I will be ok. I may be getting rid of my 62 so the tires will probably help someone to buy it.

All I have to say is your 40 better be a blockbuster. Because when your truck is finished it is on.
 
There are some guys with FJ Cruisers, Land Rovers, Jeeps and others already running these tires.... and other offroad vehicle forums you can find them being used for past couple years without issue. I would not worry too much about them....if they had issues with heat, delamination, chunking, etc...you bet your ass you would have heard about it by now on the forums and in the reviews on their website. Might be issue with some other companies...but with these guys they seem to be doing it right.

The retread tires you see on side of highway and of the 70s are not the same as these....and I think you would be hard pressed to find that these tires fail any more than new tires under the same conditions. Every single horror story I have heard was from SOMEONE ELSE or a FRIEND OF A FRIEND or talking about retreads on big rigs...which majority of failures were due to improper inflation, over weight loads, and general lack of maintenance as they were notorious for running tires until they were bald or blew apart to save money. Not a good example in my book.

On the other hand, airlines, military, and even Camel Trophy vehicles run the Treadwright tires....i have read guys on expedition portal, Land Rover forum, and Overland Adventures that own them and have had no issues for two years of daily driving and offroad use...and every single person almost would buy them again. That to me says they are not the same quality as retreads of the past.

Still got people thinking you have to change oil every 3k miles....that nitrogen is twice as good as regular air in tires though regular air is mostly nitrogen too...LOL, and that their cousin by marriage had a blowout going 80mph with retreads and killed himself with only 200 miles on the tires....they dont tell you he was drunk, swerving all over the road and hauling 2000 pounds of bricks in bed of a 1/4ton truck with the tires only inflated to 20psi causing them to be overheated, underinflated, and overloaded.....but somehow it is the fault of the tire design. LMAO
