Can anyone tell me the difference in the TRD Prrformance Air filter and the TRD Air Filter. From the pictures they look similar but price is way different.

PTR03-34140 vs PTR43-00090
$60 vs $95

Cool red trim and a big TRD logo... ;)

That be it.

It's right up there with the HP increase you get from the $100 RED TRD Start Button.

So skip these two and get a plain jane air filter?

I would highly recommend that. They are cotton gauze, which lets a lot more dirt in than a paper filter. The OEM paper filter already delivers far more air than the 5.7 can even take in its stock form.

@4gotalot did some testing on the stock paper filter. The CFM from a brand new paper filter, to a paper filter that had 3/4 of it taped off and completely blocking air flow resulted in the same amount of air into the engine.

While there are some great products tucked into the TRD line
(Can you say Rock Warrior wheels?),
sooo much of it falls into the

Toyota
Reelin-in
Dough

category.

For starters, the PTR43-00090 is the correct filter for the LC200 5.7L motor, the PTR03-34140 is for the 2014+ Tundra and Sequoia Flex-Fuel engines. So ... the difference is that one is spec'd for your engine and one is not ;) Other than that, the filter media are exactly the same (and, IMHO, not worth it).

Well, I’ve got one of each the air filters will fit. A 14 tundra flex and a 13 LC 200. And a 13 tundra flex. based on the advice I think i’ll Stick with the standard air filter, not the fancy stuff. Would be nice if all three vehicles use the same filter. Haven’t researched the parts yet, just got the 14 tundra.
