The TH400 in the War Pig is toast.

I just got a 2500 Suburban with a seized Vortec. I was struggling with whether I should rebuild it and sell the burban, or rebuild it and put the drive train in the little pig restomod project.

4rnr reminded me today that I could put the 4L80E in the war pig, which has me thinking of putting the Vortec heads and injection on it as well.

so the question is - will a 4L80E bolt up more or less to a NP203 that was attached to a TH400? Can a 4L80E be run without a ECM or will I have to go with the Vortec set up?

I could just send the TH400 to RVBTruck and have a rebuild on it, but I'm thinking for the same price I can get overdrive and CPFI. Not that I could ever really use the overdrive.

I think I'm gonna need the $$ for Longfields soon.

i'd call advance adapters. looking at the web page i think they are different.

You've probably already thought of this- but isn't the 4L80E longer than the 400? May require driveshaft modifications. Also, you could probably get the PCM to manage both the FI and the trans- or get a standalone unit and be able to switch the lockup converter at crawl speeds for better compression braking. Getting the PCM reprogrammed to not control the transmission shouldn't be that hard. Although you'd still need the VSS to run in closed loop. I've been thinking alot about PROM emulators recently, either the Prominator or something from Craig Moates.
