I am getting started doing some work on a transmission/transfer case out of an 87 FJ60 and would like to get it up in the air a little to work on it. I have seen a few mentions that people have used an engine stand so that they could rotate everything around and move it around the shop. Does anyone have any pictures of this sort of setup? It seems to me that the transmission input shaft would get in the way of using and engine stand.

I've done it, but don't have any pictures. I may have spaced the transmission off the stand arms a little using stacked washers, but I wouldn't have done more than one inch. I think the real trick is to rotate the stand arms such that the transmission input shaft is alongside the center pivot. I seem to remember that I could only attach it with three arms, not four.

I spent a little time tonight trying to bolt the 4 speed transmission to my HF engine stand, but the best I can hope for is 3 of the 4 arms. I think I need to get some long bolts and get some spacers that are as long as the input shaft, unless someone else has a solution.
