I have an '08 VX with 185k. I'm in Colorado but shipped the Land Cruiser from Puerto Rico when I moved last year. Other than a few missing features it's the same as any other North American 200 series.

A few months ago the transmission started slipping. My parking spot has a big slope and sometimes when I would back out, it would rev before clunking into gear. It occasionally slipped starting up a steep hill in first gear as well. Drove it like that for a couple weeks and then I got the christmas tree dash and a P2714 code, Pressure control solenoid stuck off. Took it to my indy shop and they said the transmission had some leaks so they replaced some seals for around $700. It was good for about a month or two and then it started again. This time the indy shop said they tested the solenoids and 5 of them tested bad. (I believe he said there were 8 or 9 in total.) They are $350 a piece from Toyota and he couldn't find them cheaper elsewhere. Total with labor would be $2,150. He's recommending I replace the transmission with a junkyard unit or have it rebuilt ($3,500 and $5,000 parts and labor respectively). Anyone have any experience with the pressure control solenoids or know where to get them cheaper aftermarket?

I'm really not sure what to do at this point. I just dropped $4k on the brake master cylinder and I had to replace a section of the wiring harness due to mice getting in there when it sat for a couple months. I can afford a rebuilt transmission but I wonder if I'm throwing good money after bad at this point or if the mouse wiring harness damage is screwing with other systems. I can't remember what the section of wiring was called but I've attached a picture.

I love this vehicle. Honestly if it had adaptive cruise control and a back up camera, I'd be set for life. The back up camera is an easy upgrade but I can't keep it out of the shop long enough to do anything about it.

Transmissions in these trucks are very robust. That said, it sounds like you need a new one. I’d probably buy one off eBay and have it installed.

$4K for a brake master cylinder?
1- you’re the first i can recall that had this problem in a 200.
2- brake master cylinder for $4K sounds stupid high.

your in Colorado, maybe take it to SLEE for a second opinion.

Your truck will be worth much more with a working tranny, so IMO you need to get it working.

Yeah unfortunately these have the same computer controlled electronic pump for the brake master cylinder as the 100 series. I couldn't find any 200's failing but it seems like a known issue in the 100's. Could be that my non-north american market Land Cruiser has the older style or maybe I'm just one of the first unlucky ones.

I agree I need to fix it. Just don't know which route to take.
