I have a question, and am not sure where to post it, but here it goes. I bought a h55f 5-speed trans and t-case from a HZJ60. Both were supossed to be rebuilt, when I received them they looked to be in great shape. I shifted throught the trans gears and everything seemed to work well. I am retrofitting them to work in a fj40 so I needed to get inside to change some things in the t-case to make it work. When I got in the case I noticed that neither shifters worked because of improper installiation. I continued looking and found other problems. I am rebuilding the t-case again, right this time, but I have a question about the transmission. I tried to contact the person I purchased the items from to see if the t-case and trans were built at the same place, but I get no response. The question I have is there any way to trouble shoot the trans without tearing into it, or should I just break down and rebuild it to make sure it was put together right?

Sorry about the long post, but I wanted to make sure everyone understood the scenerio.

Thanks

my guess would be that you will be much happier knowing than guessing, given the situation with your t-case: open it up and take a peek. "rebuilt" is a relative term anyways -- the only way to know it's done right is to do it yourself as per the Toyota factory repair manual.

good luck,

Dogboy2, thanks for the response, I felt the same as you about the situation, luckly I had some patience and I got in contact with the professional who built it. He explained the situation and cleared everything up. The t-case still needed the help, but he said the trans is done correctly.

Thanks again

Scott
