Hello all, I am having an issue with my 88 fj62. I have had it for 7 yeras and now it makes a loud "clunk" on the back when I put it on reverse... only on reverse. Then.... if I try to start going realy fast it feels as if the transmission is slipping and vibrates and does not go.... if I start slow she goes ahead with no issues. When I go over 60mph it starts vibrating, I am asuming it is the drive shaft but I'm not sure. I wanted to have the trani "cleaned and re-oiled" but the mechanic told me that since it was so old I would run the chance to have the trani fail because there was so much residue in there and it could cause some damage. So I deside not to have it "pressure-cleaned"
I want to keep it but it seems it may be time to get a new differential and trani.... the trani is too expensive.
How much can it cost me to have the trani overhauled?
The differential (parts)?
Can I have the trani cleaned without problems?
Could it be the trani the only problem?
Could it be the differential the only problem?
