2 questions:

I have a 1983 BJ60 with a 5 speed transmission, could somebody please tell me what this tranny is (name/number)?

...and does anyone have a good, clear descriptive photograph of said transmission mount? - preferably not installed.

I'm placing an order over to Australia and would like to be clear regarding my order.

I thank you in advance for your assistance.

Maybe this will help...

What you have is an H55F five speed... the x-member for it it the same as the x-member for any 4 speed FJ60 gas model... fairly easy to find... that seems like a lot cheaper way than having one shipped from Australia... I shipped one from Seattle to San Diego and it cost $15... anyway, it's an H55F. Like this one:

you can see the mount to the upper right of the transmission.

Ah with the good ole drain mod! filler hole mod that is! I gotta get that one done.

How would you do the drain hole filler mod with a pto takeoff on the side?

This what the it says but are from a 73/75 series and thus ,the crossmemeber is shorter.

The 3F mount is partly camoflaged and looks the same as the 1HZ.
For future reference BJ60 dont exist in oz but we have plent of BJ70/73/74

Hey fe sus,
Thanks for the quick reply. I'm still not completely sure of your answer though, is the bushing the same with the two cradle style studs which cradle the gearbox/tranny? As I understand, the x-member is the metal bracket which holds the bushing which holds the tranny/gearbox.

Please clarify.

Thanks.

I have the rubber isloter .

Also have a HJ60 cross memeber and mount shown.

Assuming you need just the isolator?

The crossmember changed in 1985. The correct one for an '83 is on the floor behind the tranny in fe sus's post. The correct mount its the second one in Rob's picture. The crossmember hangs on two removable "L" brakets bolted to the inner framerails rather than bolting across the bottom of the frame to two welded mounts.

Not sure.

Longer hose to get around everything?? I have not seen a PTO box in person.

As long as the hose stays level it shouldn't matter how long it is.

I have a theory that the hose only moves air anyway. The reason the oil is forced up past the seal to the transmission is because the vent is faulty. The transmission vents through the shift tower so it's always cosntant. Once you add the transfer tube, the t-case ends up vented and the oil stops migrating.

Thanks lowenbrau. I thought that the tubing was for allowing the over fill in the tranny to flow back to the transfer thus keeping the transfer full.

That is the indended purpose. I just don't think the problem happens anymore once you equalize the pressure.

Brownbear, you care to be the guinnie pig? Just attach a barb fitting to a fill plug and run a bit of tubing up high under the hood. Run it that way for a couple of months and see if the oil transfer continues.
