Just came back from shop. They installed a temp transmission line and tried out the car. There were noises and vibration which suggested damage. I order a rebuild tranny and they will start the install tomorrow. In also looked at the damaged pipe. It was being poked at from the side on another metal object which caused the tear. I guess with all the off-roading the trans line tore and started to leak. Of course I realized this a bit too late.

Do you have a picture of this. I'm interested to see what exactly happened, and where.

Bummer. I'm not aware of any 2003-2007, 5-sp tranny failures here on Mud (the 4-spds from '98-'02 have a known defect in a very small number). Bummer. Would be worth knowing the details of line location/failure mode so that it might help someone else out. The rigs usually take quite a beating, and something would have to be abnormally loose for it to tear or get punctured, especially if it was something metal that ruptured the line, v. an errant rock or such.

I still love my Cruiser. I will send some pics for all of you to see sometime tomorrow.

Hello.

Car is back from service. My first impression is that there is a slight thump on the downshift as I de-accelerate to a stop. It's only happening when coming to a stop from a higher speed (50mph). I already called the mechanic to get his feedback. How can I test to make sure the mechanic did a good job? Any suggestions? Appreciate your help.

Salam

What is the shop's hourly rate. It was only in the shop it seems for 16 work hours.

This must be the fastest transmission replacement ever.
If it is a new (or Toyota remanufactured) transmission, it should shift like new.

Did they really replace the whole transmission in only one day?
dubious...

This doesn't seem surprising to me at all. I would think it would be a 6-8 hour R&R. It's just a bolt show + refilling the fluids, right? I've done clutches on RWD manuals in 3-4 hours and that's without a lift.
