So at the last club meeting the idea of doing an overnight run on Transfer Trail out of Glenwood Springs came up. We were thinking about a time in August, took a look at our calender and saw an opening around the 24th-26th. The other idea was Taylor pass, Pearl Pass or the Marble area. Would love to do another group dinner on Saturday night, also would like to meet up on Friday Morning to get into camp at a decent time to setup and cook dinner for the night.

For the Transfer Trail Option:

We could leave on Friday morning out of Glenwood and head up the Transfer Trail over to Adams Lake while having enough time to stop, take pictures and explore the area while still getting into camp at a decent time. Adams lake or Deep Lake would make a great base camp for the weekend. There are many lakes, trails and hikes to explore in the Flat Tops. On Sunday we can head out Coffee Pot road towards Dotsero stopping at Deep Creek Overlook and the Dotsero Crater. Post up if your interested or have some ideas for the weekend.

Matt

Just put it on my calendar!

Sweet, the trail-head is about 5 min away for me so I'm in fo sho! FYI - for those that haven't been up in this area before Flattops is mellow stocker friendly wheeling. There are some obstacles to play on but the main routes are easy. Great area to explore on motorcycles for those of you that have them.

Come on Chris!! It wouldn't be an overnight run without you!!! Come up for a few extra days and I'll show you around the valley's trails, hot springs, and uhh...... no comment!

You can crash at my pad!

Ah crap I can't make that weekend. I was just reminded I committed to going to a wedding that weekend.

Date is tentative!!! Just suggest a better date!

I want to go back up to the Flat Tops again, the club also has the Cruiser Q tenatively schedule on Sept. 21-23. I would also like to do the Pearl/Taylor/Scholdfield and Tin Cup passes sometime this year.

Does the cruiser-Q go to the same area? It would be good to change things up a bit, but it sounds like there are many miles of roads up there.

Last year we went up the Transfer Rd, stop at a small lake for lunch and camped at the head water of Grizzly Creek. Agree with mixing it up a bit.

Then lets head toward Aspen and Marble! I'll look into a cool way of going from Carbondale through Marble unto Aspen for the weekend. Also find a location for us to camp each night or base camp.

I have a couple ideas!! Just have to check them out!

Marble to Crystal to Schofield Pass to Crested Butte to Pearl Pass and finish at Ashcroft outside of Aspen. Really the only way.

Yep, true with some side trails! Going to do a pre- run in June for group campsite and a few side runs.

For those who have done Schofield pass? Would an off road trailer make it? :)

I'd say no. There are a few tight spots that would be difficult but biggest problem would be lots of traffic and very few places to pass.

I would have to concur with Alan on the trailer, there is one corner in particular that is real tight, narrow and a bit off camber that would probably be the deal breaker IMO. But that being said there is more than likely some one who has done it in the past, but I wouldn't.

^ Sounds like a dare. :)

I dare ya!! Sounds like a challenge to me! Probably talking about devils punch bowl outside of the town of Crystal.

Letting people pass is going to be the biggest issue. The only obstacle on the trail is the steps above the punchbowl and they would be nothing for your rig. It is more of a mental obstacle because it is narrow and you have the water raging below you. Well it was raging last year. This year might be more of a trickling. Given the abuse they put those trailers through on that testing video you posted I wouldn't hesitate to take it.

I would make sure you are bringing up the rear and the people up front with radios can call back and let you know when people are coming down and you can find a good spot to pull off. I would not want to do any backing down that trail pretty much anywhere with a trailer. If you can prevent that from happening you're good.
