Hey all.

I need a new transfer case and core for my 1994 Landcruiser, and I happened to find one at the local Pick-Your-Part...problem is, it's a 1990 Landcruiser. The transfer case appears intact, does anyone know if I can use that '90 transfer case/core on my '94?

Any info would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks...

Ok, so I found a '94 transfer case, and that's all well and good, but now I need to actually install it!

So, if there is anyone out there with experience in swapping out a TC, I have question:

According to the Chilton manual, it is necessary to remove the transmission assembly first. That seemed kinda crazy, so I got under there and removed the plate under the TC, and of course, the whole assemblage started dropping down. Fortunately, I caught it before it ruined anything and reattached the plate, but my questions is: do I REALLY have to remove the tranny too, or can I simply remove both drive shafts, hold the tranny in place with a jack, then remove the TC? Is there an actual step by step process I can follow that someone in the know can assist with?

Never done a 90 series but have done the 70...But you are on the right track.....
Skip the remove trans bit in the manual and start from the separate transfer from gearbox part...
Just remember to remove drive shafts, any electrical connections and any selector rods...
And make sure you have enough room to pull the transfer case backwards to slide it off the spline shaft..
You may need to drop the whole lot down a bit using a jack etc etc to support it.... Just keep an eye on the other end as the engine goes up at the front and could hit the radiator etc etc...

Awesome, thanks kbushnz! That actually helps a lot. I'll be working on it here and there over the next few days, I'll let you know how it turns out, hopefully there won't be any more questions :P
