G'day, I am looking at a Holden 5.0 lt fuel injected motor and TH700 gear box to go into in to my BJ74, as I need to buy a transfer case was wondering everyones thoughts on transfer case options.

Firstly what cruiser transfer case is better? Adaptors kits available for HF1A and HF2A

Secondly I have had a few people say the Landrover transfer cases LT230 are a stronger option to the Toyota.

any other options let me know?

There's 2 basic families of landcruiser transfer case you would use for this. The split case which your car originally came with and the HF1A/HF2A which are from later models. Adapters are readily available for both but there are more for the splitcase.

The splitcase is part time 4wd and had low range ratios from roughly 1.9-2.3. PTOs are readily available for these.

The HFxA came in fulltime 4wd and part time, it has a low range ratio of 2.488:1.

The LT230 is fulltime 4wd and has a low range of 3.32 with several different high range ratios between 1 and 1.6. These have extensive, cheap aftermarket support and are very cheap second hand. Part time conversion kits are readily available.

Other options with the right outputs are the MQ/MK Patrol transfer (very little aftermarket support) and the Dana 300 (extremely rare in Aus).

If you're willing to put in the work matching tailshafts and making the shifter fit then I'd certainly look hard at the Landrover transfer. Otherwise I'd look at the splitcase as it just bolts in, the only downer is relatively high low range gearing. Crawler gears are available but are expensive and a bit noisy.

All are strong enough. You might find a second hand adapter for the split case if you look quite hard.
