Noticed this leak after doingthe Freeway Ridge/ Black Gulch trail this past weekend. Is this an easy fix? Should I be overly concerned or can I get by for a while?

If it doesn't leave a puddle on the ground, it's not a leak.
Probably cause to watch for a bit before making decisions.

Just FYI, we have an FJ40 in th fleet - that affects how we think about things...

I have the same leak as well. I have come to the conclusion that is Probably just a seal or a gasket that is become too old. I'd say just make sure the fluid is where it needs to be and fix it when you have a chance.

Cheers!
Jack

Is that the rear transfer case output? Looks like it is.
I recently replaced that seal and the studs on the flange. Required removing the rear transfer case extension housing, replacing the seal (and the studs in my case) and reinstalling the extension housing.
How many bananas? My guess is a 2 1/2 or 3 bananas.
Might not be worth the effort it takes for a small leak.
If you have a FSM look up the rear extension housing removal for an idea of what it takes.
Was kind of a pain for me.

This is a pick of the front of the housing that conects to the front drive shaft. If it's not to big of a deal I'll leave it for now and repair when I do my low case gears.

Front seal not that easy. The case has to come out. Then it's easy. Low case gears case can stay in. Spray under dust seal with wd40 or other while turning by hand
Then spray out with air. Sometimes just a little dirt stuck in seal will cause a leak.
Spray area with brake clean after and see if it stops. I've done this 2 times and it worked. Took a little time but completely stop leaking. Usually happens after muddy conditions.

Hey bumping this.

Had to slog through some unexpected mud/clay on a roadtrip. Now my transfer case is super-weeping/lightly dripping from the front seal. Did you have to take the transfer case off to do the WD40 trick? I'm trying to drench the seal and drive it to fling it out, lol. Would really really prefer not to take the transfer case out. Something about gear oil triggers my gag reflex.

This is on a UZJ120, not an 80 but I imagine the basics are the same.
