Sorry I’ve used the search button and it keeps leading me to old posts about “Marks4WD” gears but they don’t seem to be made anymore. Are there lower gears to be had anymore. Barring switching it to gear driven T-case and running a double CV prop shaft and dealing with some vibes.

also does anyone have a link or list to a HF2(a) swap. I enjoy the Full-time 4WD.

Your 70-series should have an R151F and split case.
As far as I know, there is no adapter to run an HF2a behind the R151 transmission. And there’s really no need to “upgrade”; the factory split case is plenty strong.

However, there are plenty of gearing options for your transfer case. You can run 3 to 1 low range gears that do not affect your high range, or you can run 4 to 1 low range gears that would also equate to a 10% under drive in high range.
Both of these car seats are made by sumo gear company and they’re made in Japan. Fantastic product. We’ve been running them for 15 years including the prototype set in one of my personal vehicles.

Both gear sets require machine work for the required added clearance. We can help with that as well.

Happy yo help.

Awesome thanks for the reply. The only reason I’d want the HF2A is for the full time 4WD. I’m coming from a Disco 2 and like how it drove.

The “split case” transmisson, is it the same as the 4x/5x/6x? That way I know what I’m looking for looking for part.

thanks for all the help

The “split case” transfer case was used in every US cruiser ( and worldwide ) from 09/1980 until the end of 1990 in all FJ40/45/60/62s.
They were also used in all 70-series cruisers starting in 1985.

To run the HF2A you would need to swap the transmission for a H151 variant. Depending on your vehicle you may not have enough room underneath

One thing to be aware of with the split case is that there were two different idler shaft diameters; 34mm and later 38mm. You need to know which size you have when ordering a new gearset.

Plenty of gearing options available for your current split t-case, both for the high-range and/or low-range

A great deal more info here:

R series 105 transmission with HF1A adapter, should fit a 2A as well.

The big H15x transmissions don't fit the 38 mm R series split style t cases and no adapter exists.
