For any of you tranny gurus out there. I have an 84 FJ60 with 150k miles. I bought it last october and have been slowly repairing things. I put on new exhaust manifold and a CCOT tune up kit and it runs great. The problem now is tranny noise. As I accelerate from a stop no real tranny noise. when I get to about 25mph a whine starts up and continues as long as I am accelerating. coasting there is no noise and clutch in no noise. Tranny shifts without problems and syncros all seem to work. Transfer case shifts easily and stays in gear. I have no clue as to previous preventative maintenance, but when I bought it I changed all the oils and nothing scary anywhere-normal color and no metal in the oil. I have some tranny leaks and suspect the seal between transfer case and tranny is leaking and plan to instal the hose from man-a-free to recirculate the oil.
So now to the question. Is there a relatively simple way to figure out where the noise is coming from???? I can tackle small things, but I am not ready to pull out the tranny myself so will need to take somewhere. Fortunatly this is weekend toy and not daily driver. Should I drive it until something comes apart and then fix??
thanks for the help
